We have an official hotel for the event. It's one of my favorites- Bethesda Hyatt Regency. My family stays here when they come out to visit. It's located right on top of a metro station- so no having to drive! Yay! This is a great, safe neighborhood, with excellent access to all the attractions in DC. There's great dining available, and quick access to 495/270 for those who are driving.

No group rate as yet, but if you book off the site, rate is $119 a night.
If you decided to look for accomidations elsewhere- please, please make sure you check with me. There are some cheaper locations out there, but they are much farther from metro stations, and in neighborhoods that are borderline. I'm not fond of walking my camera gear through Brookline to get to a hotel. ;)

So again- The Bethesda Hyatt Regency is our designated hotel.

I and my wife are hoping to be able to join ya'll during the day on Saturday. Have any specific plans been made? I read earlier about Chinatown or the Nat'l Zoo being considered. Ray

As a heads up, I've recently had a couple of folks who are using the DPCer Hoteling system PM me with some concerns over allergies and some religious accomidations. In order to make sure everyone has a comfortable stay while in town I may and I stress may, need to shuffle a couple of folks around.

Now don't everyone PM me at once saying, "Are you moving me?" If I need to move you, I promise I'll be letting you know. :) Again, this is just to make sure every attendiee has the best possible experience.

If you are staying with another DPCer and have a specific concern (food allergy, critter allergy, need religious accomidation etc) please PM me and let me know. :)

National Zoo is definate. The final event schedule is still evolving while I get an idea on headcount. With 2 months before the actual event, I don't want to lock it down just quite yet. :)

Thanks Clara for the quick answer :o)

And for what it's worth, although I'm 90 miles away from DC I would be happy to offer our guest bedroom to anyone who may need it. Comes with home cookin' and a private shower, as well as a free ride to town!

I need to talk it over with my beautiful wife, but I plan on coming as well. Sounds to fun to pass up.

Okay...I have a possibility of staying at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. It says it's in Rockcreek Park, Calvert St. @ Connecticut. Looks very nice. Would this get the okay from locals? I might be able to get it for about $100.00 a night which seems pretty good for the area?

My other possibility right now is a timeshare condo in Alexandria that I've stayed in before and seems very convenient. It's about a minute and a half walk to the metro. I won't know about that for several days, though.

The Shoreham would be ok. It's a big, old, formerly classy place that has been redone. The neighborhood is ok too. Don't know about access to Metro. You should be able to find out about that on their website.

The Bethesda Hyatt Regency is an excellent choice. A little pricey but maybe if their are enough Clara can work a deal. But even at full boat rates, it's worth it for the convienience. It is, literally, on top of a Metro stop. And the restaurant district that it borders is second to none in this area. Every kind of cuisine you could think of, they got it. There's even a diner and a drug store that are open 24-7 within a few blocks for the late night photo-prowlers, lol. And Bethesda is pretty crime free, more upscale than inner city.

Kudos to blemt for selecting an excellent hotel for the gathering.

Yep..the Hyatt is probably where I will stay if the timeshare doesn't work out. I'm just a bargin hunter checking out all the options. :) I would really like to be with the group, but the timeshare would be so nice for my husband and me. And I HAVE stayed there, so I know it's a good spot.

Oh totally. Excellent hotel, excellent neighborhood. It's a short walk to Metro as well, and you are near Adams Morgan for food choices. I looked in DC, but decided on Bethesda because of the ease of car access. I didn't want to make people from out of town have to drive in DC traffic any more than needed. :)

To those who are stayign in hotels...

Everyone is free to stay where they wish, Clara did a wonderful job in finding us a reasonable price hotel at Bethesda so people would have a place to get on the metro easily.... If you arent staying there, you may wish to figure out your transportation to enable you to get where we're goign on time as in town parking is pricey and difficult to find. Most of the people who have places at this time are on the Metro. We will be using that to get around town.

Its so nice to hear so many people comign to the NotaCon :) Puttign faces, voices and names with user names will be fun :)

To those wI have not acknowledged as beign on teh list... please, let me know so I can get you on it and we can look forward to you being with us in DC :)

is there parking at the hyatt , if we drive to dc we will need to park
06/01/2005 08:49:54 PM · #172
Please also bear in mind that the Metro does not run 24x7. For the night shoot, there will be about a 4½ hour window of time where there will be no Metrorail service available.

If I have a carload of people that want to go back to the Bethesda Hyatt Regency, I may be willing to take a break from shooting to make a shuttle run. I will not, however, make multiple stops and risk getting lost in DC at 5 in the morning.

This means anyone staying at a hotel would need to either stop shooting at 3, commit to keep going until 7, or drive in and pay for parking.

Just curious, what's the taxi situation like in DC? Are they pretty available, like in NY or scarce to none? especially in the early morning hours.
06/01/2005 08:57:23 PM · #174
We can program one of the local cab companies number into the group leaders cell phones.

Terry jumped the gun slightly. We will have alternate arraingments to get people back to beds if folks tire out. :) Nobody is going to get trapped in Washington DC if they do not want to be there. Promise.

As I recall, there is indeed parking. Call them and double check though.
