Okay- we are in the home stretch. Many thanks to my intrepid band of minions (ClubJuggle, mcrochip and di53). Without them, this would be dead in the water. Thanks guys! I owe you big. :)
Critical points-
1) The actual night shoot is still open. If you live in the area and want to come play- feel free. PM and of the four of us for details on wheres and whens. The more the merrier. :)
2) Heat. The weather is supposed to break this week in time for the shoot. If it doesn't break, it's going to be hotter than the hinges of hades. Bring water bottles with you. All group leaders will be making sure that we dodge in and out of buildings with AC during day events.
Start drinking water now if you aren't. Hydration is critical in this kind of weather. We don't want anyone passing out on us. :)
3) ID. If you bring nothing else but your camera this weekend, please make sure you bring ID. There are dozens of police agencies in the DC area, and about 10 of them have jurisdiction in various areas where we are going to be. If you are told to stop shooting a building, don't ask why- just go ahead and do it.
Tripod shooting is against the law on the grounds of the US Capitol and around the White House. Yes, against the law. The grounds of the Capitol are pretty expansive, so if approached by law enforcement and told you need to move- please do so. :)
Because we are all carrying bags around, due to increased security in the region you may be asked by law enforcement to show the contents of your bag. Yes I know the legality of this is suspect- but if it happens, please be polite. We've had a couple of scares on the Metro last week related to bags.
4) Rain. Hurricane season is upon us. This means nasty, brief, intense rain storms. Bring rain gear for you and for your camera.
5) Have fun! This is going to be a great weekend! Last year was awesome, and I really expect this year to top our event last year.

Alright! I haven't checked in for a while now...
is it this weekend already? I'm still planning on attending but I don't seem to have any idea of what I'm doing. In fact, I didn't think I was going to be able to attend for a while but luckily I didn't tell anybody; I checked the list and saw that I am booked for Terry's house? that's groovy with me. Only problem is that I get out of work at 4 on Fri (in Yonkers NY), so I don't know when I should drive down...or even where I'm going. I'm thinking that I should just come down on Saturday as that sounds like the real night of nights. Perhaps I will plan on getting there early on Sat to meet up for one of the AM shoots.

oh yeah....i guess that would mean count me in for Saturday dinner... and XL is excellent.
This will be a good weekend trip for me. Haven't taken a photograph in a while.

not to nit-pick here, but by 'do it', do you mean comply with law enforcement or shoot the picture?

You sir are a rabble rouser. ;) Ahem, to clarify- please comply with any directives given to you by uniformed law enforcement. Clara refuses to bail anyone out of jail. In particular Clara is not fond of waiting for drunk college students...I mean picture snapping DPCers to be processed by Capitol Police. Their waiting rooms are boring.

Two important points:
1. Anyone asking about late registration for Saturday dinner, please see the payment thread. You MUST follow the instructions there to be added to the wait-list!
2. Due to cancellations, anyone who was originally staying at my apartment (including me) is now staying with mcrochip. This will work out nicely for all of us since he lives MUCH closer to the festivities than I do!

hi!

i'll just wander through the streets of Bethesda looking for a fire-scarred apartment building and shouting "Claaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!"

but trust me. i can find a pizzeria uno within 15 miles of my current location anywhere in the world. you might be able to shake me on friday, but i'll hunt down an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet like it's nothin'.

Aww, jen, you and AJ are (or at least, were) on the Friday night roster. Sorry you won't be there afterall, I was looking forward to meeting you. (I had the same conversation with LaurieLBlack via PM yesterday... when does it end LOL?) Will you not be hanging out the rest of the weekend Ray?? What's up with that? Now that I know we might be able to get there using the rail system we might pop in just to visit. I wasn't sure how we would get there. Besides, the friends we were supposed to meet up with are being wishy washy about Friday so we may not meet up with them afterall.

No, I won't make it for the rest of the weekend. My oldest son Daniel is graduating from Air Force bootcamp next week, and we are flying out early Sunday morning to San Antonio for the occasion. I had hoped to make it into DC on Saturday but I'm afraid we're just gonna be too busy getting ready for the trip.
If your wishy-washy friends don't come through, then by all means come on out to Steve's... I hear he's got PLENTY of room! (It's so easy to think "the more the merrier" when it's not your house :o) |
