I've seen mention numerous times on this...but I don't quite know where I'd start off hand. Where does one rent equipment? What kind of rates do you typically get? (I'd primarily be interested in renting a long telephoto to try some night time sky/moon shooting, just as an excersize for myself).

thanks!

Where do you live?

Decent photography stores will rent equipment.

Typically I've seen that you leave a deposit for the full value of the lens (typically on a credit card) and then pay about 5%-10% of the value of the lens per day to rent it.

Depending on your local rep, you can always just ask Canon and they might lend it to you too. I've done that a few times with bodies.

Actually it isn't quite that bad, the daily rates tend to drop as the value goes up.

a $3000 300mm lens would cost you $50 per day, with a $3k deposit or $250 for a week.

I rented a 400mm 2.8 for the weekend (in Toronto Canada) for may long weekend. I am going to take some bird pics at long point.

It cost me 150 for the whole long weekend.
