First of all, thanks to all who commented on my entry. I got some wonderful comments. Very rewarding.
Also thanks to all who voted me and my cat into 6th place. Never thought that would happen. LOL! This is only my second ever pet photo entered into competition, and my other one landed 4th!!
My wife says I might have a future in pet portraits. Ha ha! Ah ha ha?! Ah ha ha ha? AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! runs screaming from the room...
OK, I'm back now. Boy that was scary.
I was asked about my post processing, and to see the original, so here it is:
For PP, I mostly played with levels and contrasts, creating a darker edging, and dodging and burning to make sure that the shadows came out and created some depth. In my BW conversion I used the quadtone mode, as I've recently discovered that it gives much more tonality to a BW image.
About the photo, prior to this, I had noticed my cat going up there on a few occasions, but since this contest, it seems like she is always up there waiting for me to take her portrait again. It's as if she knows something. Weird.
I was also asked if she was a Maine Coon. I have no idea what she is, as she was adopted through a cat rescue program. As far as I know, she's just a mutt. A cute mutt, nonetheless.
Thanks again to all!
Cheers!
