apparently, the number of comments you leave - as counted and displayed with your profile - can be tricked, as I have just receieved the following comment ... "no comment"

It looks like some people were waiting till the last moment to add comments, or those that voted last are making more comments. I am just a few away from the 10:1 ratio of the last challenge. Thanks to all who left comments.

I have 32 comments out of 236 votes. I'm attributing the many comments to the fact that my photo will probably be the one in last place since my score is currently at 2.8. Hey, it's my first submission and I have a cheap camera. I have heard that the one in first and the one in last usually get the most comments. Although I knew the problem (one I couldn't seem to fix) when I submitted, I've gotten some helpful and informative comments. However, there was one comment that was downright rude. Still using my cheap camera, I think I've come up with a fairly reasonable submission for next week and I'm anxious to see how it comes out in the negative space voting. I ended up with two photos to choose from and I hope I chose the right one.

Still only 8 comments out of 230 votes. But, hey, I finally broke through to 5.008 having been in the high 4.9s all week!

Small satisfactions are good sometimes!

Those jumps between the whole number scores are exciting, especially late in the week :)

I'm pissed. My score is drop-drop-dropping as it gets closer to the end! I was very please with where it topped out, but now my hopes and dreams are being dashed! heh.

For me, a lack of comments is comment enough on the overall quality of my shot. This week the number of comments is WAY down, but I have received some good ones and I will contact the author(s) after the challenge. I believe someone mentioned getting comments that are completely opposite of one another, and I received some in that vein also (and usually do get some of those !) - which always gives me a chuckle.

This is not uncommon. People view things differently. Some like one aspect of a photo while others hate it. If it is a subjective issue that is in contradiction, I wouldn't worry about it.

What I find fun to watch is contradictory comments on technical issues. Depth of field is one that seems to get this quite frequently.

I'm very happy with the comments I have received this week. This is my 6th challenge and I usually get about 20 comments. This week I have received more than 40 comments!

My score went from 5 to 6 early on the week. I've seen my score settle at the end of the working week, but friday and saturday seems to be slipping a little bit.

I have learned so many things from these past couple of months on dpchallenge. This is what the Internet is all about. Learning from all kinds of people from around the world. Thank you, everyone!

This weekend, though, I feel a little worried, since I don't yet have a picture to submit for the Negative Space challenge.

What I don't understand is I enter a photo of my uncle Eli Ey shining shoes as he has done for the past fifty plus years and I am called a racist. And by someone who likley has no idea what a racist is.

I would just as soon not get comments if they are going to be of the type I've gotten this week. Most commenters do not recognize that my photo was intentionally lit that way and the saturation was increased for effect. I have had countless comments of bland, bad lighting, and get fresher fruit. Funny thing is, my fruit was almost too green to eat. I have even had comments about using my macro mode (I did) to make it sharper. What I am saying essentially is that my photo is a prime example of getting tips for improvement that stem from the critic not really looking closely at the photo and making sure the comment is a valid observation.
