For Basic Editing Challenges, can I decompose an image and then use only 1 or 2 of the resulting layers?
Thanks

You'll have to be more descriptive/specific about the steps you want to take. |

Load the image, and decompose into R/G/B layers. Turn off red layer. Then, in Normal mode, adjust opacity of the blue layer until I am happy with the look.
Crop, resize, save.
Thanks

Should be legal because the same thing could be achieved by using channel mixer layers and adjusting the opacity of your choice of them. |

That should be OK, but try to be careful with your terminology: the R/G/B are Channels -- not layers, and different rules apply.
You can't use a pixel-containing Layer in Basic Editing at all, while you can use any combination of Channels you want -- they are the color breakdown of the single Background Layer. |
