How would this have done here, do you think?

I think it's too soft and dark - especially comparing to the rest of the images within the challenge this week ....

BUT i do like the photo ... it gives me a mysterious feeling :)

below is an outtake of my own - and the rate my photo is going this week - i'm thinking I shoulda submitted this one

great shot. I like the macro perspective on the top of the apple...it makes for a pleasing composition. Also, I like the background as well... its not black, and that makes it a bit different from most of the shots in this challenge.

Nice traditional art approach. Very "Painterly". Not easy to acheive with digital cameras.

Might be a little too understated for this site but I still think it would ahve score solidly above average and I would have given it a 8 or a 9 :-)

Well, exactly why I didn't submit it. :-) Maybe I should have tried to redo it instead of abandoning the idea....?
Ayme, nice shot as well, but I am also enjoying all the submissions, which must include yours.
:)

Thank you Karen - yeah ... I'm hoping people will be bumping up scores .. beacause i'm not doing as well as i thought i would on my own photo - but that's alright - i like it- hehe ..

I have not finished voting yet ... will probably do that today - i've been scoring very high on the ones i have voted for - all well deserved :)

Hey Karen...I went back to that photo to look at it some more and I noticed a very fine line of artifacting along the top of the stem.

You might need to clean that up in photoshop before making a lot of prints...just noticed that while looking more intently at the image :-)

Very sensual shot. I would have scored it either 8 or 9 depending on my mood.

karen, i think your shot would've scored well with me, i love the colors and composition.

ayme, i like yours, too, i'm salivating just to look at it. i would've preferred either more DOF (if possible with a macro and your camera) or the focal point to be a little more to the front of the photo to reduce the amount of OOF apple chip there.

Karen I love the mood of the photo! I did notice something at the stem-oversharpened?- I have no clue...but it would have scored pretty high with me none-the-less.
Here are my F&V outtakes. ( I tried this on another thread...but it went a different direction. Critiques welcomed!)

Hey gr8photos thanks ... I'm still learning the macro lens - that apple chips is with the macro ... i'll work on it (umm gotta get a new bag - already ate the props - hehehe) I'll post something soon!

I think that this is a great picture, with a great painterly quality.

I would like a little more light to show the shape of the fruit.

I am not sure how this would have done, but it would look great in a kitchen. Print it!

My fruit outtakes wandered off too...
Terry -- I like the Kiwi best, maybe because the fruit itself is asymmetric.
Karen -- I think the apple is unexpectedly dark, without something in the photo or title to indicate why. For example, a tiny bit of cutting board and fancy cheese knife showing off the right edge might imply a fancy, candlelit table setting...but then I'm more a fan of "action" photos than studio still-lifes in general...
Amye -- I like how you snuck that crispy texture into an otherwise "soggy" challenge; I was OK with the DOF as it is...but you remind me I was just visiting my friend Tom in the Trinity Alps, and he just got a new apple corer/peeler which not only peels the skin in one continuous spiral piece, it slices the apple itself into a helix (think Slinky toys) as it removes the core! I want one...and the apple tree to go with it...Maybe we should have a "What Is It?/Unusual Item" challenge.

Karen, I think the apple is a bit soft and dark.

Terry, I like the solarized peppers. Would this be legal in a challenge??

I really like the purple onion, Gr8Photos

Here are a few
Outtakes from a local farmers market. I went a totally different direction.

I was curious about that myself. It is a function in the camera- which I believe is allowed.
Maybe someone can jump in and answer this?

Okay, my turn. My outtakes are nothing like my entry so I'm not giving anything away. I was just wondering if any of these might have done better.

Karen, I think that apple is very sexy.
The Apple chips looked soooo edible.
Short, I liked the crop on the watermellon.
Terry, altogether that's an interesting group of shots. I liked 'hot-peppers' best as a single but I also think you could do a sequence of pictures. The story is already half told. LOL.

I love the apple shot. If your submission was better than this you are a shoe-in for placement in the top 3. :'-D

I would have voted these "chips" at least 8 and probably higher. I love the rich earthy tones.
BUT i do like the photo ... it gives me a mysterious feeling :)

Amy --

I found this recipe at the iWon.com portal today:

Frugal Tip
September 11, 2002

Apple Treat
Use your apple peels! Sprinkle them with oil, cinnamon and sugar, and then bake until crisp.
