I apologize - I couldn't locate the original thread for this. A lot of us were experiencing very slow response on a lot of DPC pages last week and I just wanted to see if it is still true for a lot of you. I have been building a "database" and just want to make sure I am not slowing my own system down needlessly. Thank you!

Now, with my 2.2GB broadband...DPC is slower than a really slow thing!
Voting is very long and tiring, makes you want to rush out for a Chinese meal between downloads of photos, but then you'd only be hungry before next one is ready.

D&L are looking at a number of possible causes. They've implemented some diagnostic code to try and track it.

the last couple of days it has been all over the place! At times, it is almost instant (the way it should be on broadband); other times it has been so slow that I gave up and closed it. |

That's what confused me, too. Every now and then, it has been its usual quick self. I guess we will just have to be patient and happy that it isn't our PC's!

I had to switch to Mozilla Firefox because DPC on IE is sloooooow. It's pretty quick on Mozilla though....try switching to a new browser, Aol is the worst I think. This is making voting on the challenges difficult because of slow responses.

Very slow. Use Mozilla also (I'm not sure if that vs. I.E. makes a difference.) Fast broadband is slow as a snail on DPC. But still making comments!!

LOL, I just missed posting to another thread on this before it got locked.
Just wanted to add that I'm having the same problem, both at the office in Toronto, and at home in Burlington, Ontario. Both of my connections are very high-speed and perform well to other Websites.
Good luck on a fix! Updates from the folks I sent my registration fee to would be nice. |

The admins are currently trying to isolate the problem and fix it as soon as they can.

Funny I'm starting to think that also. I think I need to change all my bookmarks to DPC.

Thanks for the quick update, though not very descriptive, are you a politician? It shouldn't take more than a few hours to isolate the problem & decide on a fix. It's implementing the actual fix that could be time consuming. I'm having feelings of guilt that my new account may be the one that broke the server's back. ;-) |

It's been slow for days now for me, the only one too. I'm going to go clean house on the computer and see if it's partially my fault :)

There are so many database requests for each page it could be a number of things causing the problems. The admins have added lots of individual details at the bottom of the SC's pages with different database queries and their loading times. When one of us experiences a slow page load, we pass the details on to the admins so they can see where the problems may be laying. The problem is that the source of the delay doesn't seem to be consistant a lot of the time. I think they have decided it's not a server problem (too much traffic or whatever) but somethine internal. This is just what I understand though, and I could be wrong, having no experience in the field myself :)

Sometimes it runs just fine, bam, bam, bam, then it hangs, for up to a minute or more with the animated cursor just churning away. Hitting stop, reload does nothing either (Firefox). IE6 is the same. Just have to wait it out.
It was this hang that didn't allow me to unsubmit my Accidental Letter picture, and though I have requested it a couple times (3rd) reply and again (6th) reply) and have even tried to bring it to Admin/SC attention via Report Post button twice.
Not a peep.
Edit to add:
Thank You - I see it has been removed now.

Thanks for the reply Konador.

So the admins have ruled out the servers, traffic, and found that there is no consistant source of the delay. I would think the next step would be to check the routers/hubs/NICs. Actually, it's more proper to work from the hardware level up, so this may have been checked before the servers.
Anyway, I'll stake my reputation on a faulty router.
