And it gave me an idea... would a "Favorite Commenter" list be (a) possible, (b) desireable, and/or (c) worthwhile? It might increase the quanity and more importantly the quality of comments, which is an often ranted over issue. Also, it would bring recognition to some of the unsung heroes of this site.
Thoughts?

Maybe a system where one could rate if a comment was helpful or not? This could give out some sort of points and the natural drive to earn such points will increase quantity and quality of the comments.

Umm, I think that would lead to people marking comments of anyone that didn't like their photo as 'unhelpful'. Not everyone would do this, not even a majority. But if people start seeing 'unhelpful' next to honest critical comments, it might be discouraging. I like the idea of being able to mark them as helpful though.
Not sure what kind of a programming headache it would be...
