Well I'm sorry to say I'll just be a bystander for a while. I managed to loose my camera and my car in the same day... the day before my birthday to boot. So after I take and epty my savings to put a down payment on another car I'll be pretty much broke. I Think a new camera will have to wait until around christmas.

As for what happend well a lttle fifty cent rubber fuel line popped off the carburator. This sprayed gas all over my motor. I smell gas a was going to pull into the drive way about 200 yards up the road. Before I could get there I heard a pop. Soom smoke stated pouring in from the air vents. Panicked I drove into the ditch and jumped out of the car. I opened the trunk to get the fire extinguisher. I then ran around to the from reached in the car a pulled on the hood release. Well the handle pulled completly out of the hole cable and all. So I and left standing there watching my car burn in a brilliant display. Then it hits me this sucks I wish I had my camera, no one will beleive this. Then I remember.... the camera's in the backseat.. of my now completely engulfed in flames car........so here I am at work the day before my birthday smelling like burned plastic... thinking I miss my camera.. and boy I wish I had a beer... sorry about the rant be talking about it makes me feel a little better.

OMG that is horrific. I am thankful that YOU are ok. Things can be replaced; you can't. What about car insurance? Were you insured?

I hope you get through this trauma OK. What a bummer of a birthday. I'm so sorry.

I only had liability. so insurance is a bust. I made it out of the car just fine smelling like smoke but unscratched. That much I am ery lucky about... besides now I have a reason to get the jeep iv'e been wanting if I can find one affordable enough.

That's bad luck, I'm sorry your day started so badly. When I was a child, a pyromanic set fire to our old house. The garage and the car burnt down to the ground. My father's SLR on the backseat in the camera case survided it all unharmed.

woohoo a bit of good luck I can replace my camera for $400 on ebay. Much nicer than the $1200 that was payed for it a few years ago. Now to see how much I can haggle down the down payment on another car.. might be able to replace both :)

Do you have homeowners insurance? I seem to recall from my joyous days working in an insurance call center that it's homeowner's that covers the items in your vehicle. It's worth a shot.

Dunno how it works over there, but here when you rent it's law that you have some kind of insurance (sometimes this is arranged by the landlord) that covers contents and anything that might happen to the property (fixtures and fittings - not structural). It might be worth seeing if you have anything.

Also, I believe that it's standard that your car insurance (as long as fire and theft are included) will cover a certain value of good lost in the car.

Hope that you do find that you have some cover - the idea of being without a camera is scary!

Yey I can sleep again .... I managed to pick up another minolta dimage7 at a camera shop in little rock Arkansas... I saw others for the same price but decided to stay with somthing I knew and trusted. I wen't snap happy so I even managed to get one in for the bored challenge this week. Thanks to everyone at DPC for you kind advice. I hope to repay the kindness my stealing at least one ribbon in the future.

Oooo... that sux since fire/theft/vandalism insurance is pretty cheap... up here in Canada anyway.

Very sorry for your loss. What a crappy thing to happen right before your b-day.
