Does anyone know how to make scratches on a picture with Photoshop? I'm doing the pics for a friend who is cutting an album. Some of the shots we did are in an alley. I want to make it look rough and raw and I thought some scratches might help. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

the only way to apply scratches is to add an image that has scratches, and apply settings to have it modify your photo how you wish. a good place to look for some would be at iStockPhoto

just type in scratch or something and you should find a few choices. plus istockphoto is really cheap- ranging from $1 to $3 depending on the resolution needed. hope this helps.

You can either make an image that has the scratches you want and turn them into brushes or else you can use ready made brushes that are around on the net. If you use brushes you find then be sure to read the conditions of usage especially if you're planning on using them on commercial products as some do not allow that.

Vbrush is a good place to start. There are quite a number of different scratches/grunge brushes on there.

This simply isn't true. Here's a wonderful photoshop plugin for aging images, demo available, buyable for 19.95: //www.v-d-l.com/adrenaline_oldmovie.html

I shoot my own special effects stock every chance I get. Rust, scratches, metal, wood, never know when you'll need that little "extra" something.

So after you shoot the ribbon winner of the barn, shoot a few medium, close and macro of the more interesting textures for down the road.

This is a free PS action that creates scratches for you. I don't know if it's what you're looking for but it might be. Free is always good. :o)
