This is actually bob's other half (user Eliza, aka Lizzy, aka Kate) Just a couple of my shots from the weekend, thanks everyone for a great day. Bob's going to post his tomorrow, and Im going to add a couple more too.
The tiger was taken the day after the gettogether at the Natural History Museum, but it probably won't end up in the 'wildlife photographer of the year' exhibition that's currently on display there. |

Home at last!
Massive thanks to Kavey for organising it all, and Bob(ster) for letting us cadge a lift. We met a lot of cool peeps - not that I can remember many name/face combinations - and had a heckuva good time.
Expect the first of my shots in a month or so ...

We should have a mini-challenge for the London GTG'ers, and let the rest of us vote on the images...

for some photos i've now put the 'original' and the post processed one next to each other. post processing is something i would like to learn a lot more about, and i think many here also think of it as some 'secret' that more experienced members could definitely teach us a lot about. i did these images between 1 and 4am the night of the shoot w/a bottle of wine so there was some experimentation there, little skill, and a lot of luck. more discussion on the topic and specific comments would be welcome. cheers, tom
ps - all photos were originally taken in the RAW format, auto white balance
pps - one of my main questions is why do i have to do so much post processing work with my D70? am i using the settings wrong or something? they always seem to come out too dark . . . (not just with these)

I was supposed to do loads of work this morning, but I couldn't resist working on some of the pics from Saturday.
It was great to meet everyone, we'll have to do it again soon!
I was completely 'photoed out' from taking a vast number of photos in the last couple of months so I didn't take many photos, but here are the ones I did take:
and one taken the next day at the Natural History Museum:
Many thanks to the wonderful Kavey and Pete for putting us up and showing us their Antarctica photos!

guys and gals - first, a special thanks to kavita for organizing (oops, should i say organising?) all of this! i wish i could have hung out for the post walk drinks.
HERE are my photos from the walk.
For those who were not here, it was *$(#& cold and on-and-off raining during much of the 'photo' period (okay, part of which was spent in a pub).
I really enjoyed meeting all of you and look forward to seeing more photos from today, learning more from each other and inspiring each other to be better photographers! |
Love the photo, 'the_eye___'... very nicely done. |

I'll start this with a disclaimer:
1) This was my first time shooting candids (honestly!)
2) I'm not comfortable pointing my camera at people.
3) Taking shots of the group is difficult when standing right next to them with a 300mm zoom on :D
Hence, not many people shots and the brown ribbon for me in the candid challenge ...

We did the tourist thang on Sunday but I've only managed to whittle those down to 300 or so 'keepers' so far :-/

You've got a pretty good selection in there, and that shot of me isn't too bad either ;o)

Glad you like (and thanks to Laurie too). It's certainly a different set to my usual style!
Just to prove that Kavey isn't the only one who can cock things up, here's my list of near disasters from the weekend ...
- Forgetting to turn IS off while shooting with the tripod. Fortunately I realised before I'd taken too many shots.
- Forgetting to set the aperture on the fisheye resulting in a lot of would-be-very-cool-if-they-weren't-so-blurry shots of St.Pauls.
- Picking up a spare lead for my battery charger rather than unplugging the one that was known to be working. Yeah you guessed it ... blown fuse. Wouldn't have been a problem except that my original Canon battery doesn't hold much charge any more. I did get to relearn using the 602 though : )
