This may be rather easy for me to say since I did not submit to this challenge, but good grief, the submissions overall for this challenge are far above anything I have seen since 'Free Study.'

Seems every week someone thinks we have reached a new zenith in quality. Well, I guess its gonna be me this week ' - )

from the early scoring on my entry (and the slant of alot of threads), you're one of VERY FEW with that opinion

I haven't started voting yet, but when I looked at the thumbnails for the first time I was definitely in awe! I know it's all down to personal taste, but this is the kind of photography I like... stuff that depicts real life and explores the human mind rather than photos that idealise or romanticise their subjects.

So I don't care who thinks this challenge is a dud, I love it!

I'm rather mystified, because when I submitted my image I thought I'd finally have a pretty good shot at a top-25 placing, not the 4.5 with 1 comment (119 votes) I have now. Within the context and criteria of DPC and this particular challenge, I have a hard time finding a problem with it...hopefully there will be further clarification forthcoming...

I will post some (completely dis-similar) outtakes in the outtakes thread...

I just finished preliminary voting. Never have I scored so many 6's, 7's, 8's, and 9's. Only a handfull of 5's and two 4's. So I far I have only coughed up one 10, but I may have to give up a few more.

Whats better about it? Composition has been key to my base scoring. So many good ones... Also, I have tried very hard NOT to vote down images of children just because they are children and their parents probably took the photo. So what?

I like the diversity too. Frankly I could care less whether they are old or young, fat or skinny, short or tall, etc... It keeps things interesting. I'm also trying not to be too judgemental on the 'candid' aspect. It could look posed and be very candid--or could look candid and be very posed. Thats just too much to get hung about.

mcmurma -- I have to agree with you. I did my first pass through all of the entries on Monday and was really impressed with the quality and variety of photography. I also have more photos in my 7, 8, 9, 10 slots than any other week. I wish there were a special purpose higher score -- there is one photo in the candid competition that I think is one of the best I've ever seen on this site. I'd give it a 25 if it were available.

This is one of those challenges where I can't wait 'till the end of voting to see who took the photos that I really like. There are some really good ones and I'm really enjoying going through them this week. Though it may be partly because I tend to like photographs of people engaged in activities better than still-lifes like pencils. :)

I'm in the same boat, more or less. I've been posting photos on here long enough to have a good feel for where a photo should probably fall in the scoring and I expected my candid entry to be about a full point higher than it now is (in the mid 4 range...). Ah well, the vagaries of dpc voting....

First, I also see a lot of photos that are very intrigueing...well done folks :-)

I actually have been doing better when I don't think that highly of a photo. I submitted this week and wondered if I should have even entered this week because I just couldn't put the right set of photos together.

A lot of missed opportunities made me feel like I settled for a photo. But, I have not missed a challenge in 6 months and I always make time for at least a swing at the challenge...sometimes I learn the most when I am under a bit of pressure.

Sometimes when a photo is too easy I miss the human element. When I have to work the angles a bit more I see
the unique perspective in the not so obvious shot.

Thank you Gordon ;-) You don't know how big of an effect you have had on my photography.....

I had alot of fun trying to find the right "scene" or "subject" for this challenge ... candid can be anything ... and in some slight relation a tab bit funny ... "candid camera" ring a bell? I think i really achieved that with my entry and my scores and comments so far are reflecting my same feelings ...

I too cant wait to see who's photos are whos ...
