Hi everyone. A few people have already stumbled on these that I added to my port last night. I thought they were more of something that only I would like - I seem to find this "painted" look very appealing, but haven't seen it responded to well here on DPC. I took these (other than the last one) during the one break in the rain in Palm Springs last week just before the man I help had the seizure. Here's the questions I have: (ANY comments would be helpful): Do these appeal to anyone? If not, is the painted look, the images themselves, or something else or both? Would these ever be accepted in a challenge? Thoughts like these I am curious to see how people feel. I enjoy these regardless, and I am not thin-skinned, so please feel free to blast away. I will not be upset. Oh, and lastly, I also feel they break the "busy" rule just a bit. There are "busy", but they work for me this way. Anyway, thank you for any time or comments as always.

They look good. How do you get that effect as though it looks painted?

When I read a 'painted' effect I was expecting to see one of those bad photoshop filters that just apply brush strokes to a canvas texture. These look very much like they were painted from scratch. I believe they would certainly have appeal to some and is certainly a marketable niche. I dont think they will do so well in challenges here simply because it does look like digital art and not a photograph. There are, however, plenty of places that do like digital art that would really enjoy these. They do seem quite busy for a photograph but for some reason I think paintings are expected to be more complicated and the more detail there is the more one appreciates the time to explore all the little things hidden away.

The "effect" is right out of the camera with maybe a 5-10% bump in saturation, some a bit of curves. My Kodak, in the clean, desert light that day, right after a rain, accomplishes this quite naturally! I get the same look when i paly with so-called bad lighting sometimes.

| good pictures. I'd ask "What did they look like without the effect?" but from the sound of things, there's been no effect added. Bummer... |

Thank you for the comments and the help in getting a clearer idea of how others see these. I think these type of images fall under the category "enjoy for myself", which there is nothing wrong with! LOL Thanks all!

I think a better description of these would be "Kodachrome", not painted. They have that rich, saturated look of low-speed, low grain transparency film. Very nice pallette. I wouldn't hestiate to enter colors such as this in a challenge.

Thank you. You are right - I love the old postcards and photos; maybe that is why I am so drawn to this look.

I think that lighting after a rain is so pretty, and it really helps to bring out the color in that gorgeous southwest palette. Great stuff!!! :o)

Thanks Laurie. I think that your Parts challenge entry had a similar look and I loved that one. The southwest colors are just fabulous to my eyes, aslo.

| Very pretty Kylie! I LOVE the colors in them. I especially like the 2 all the way to the left with the bench in the forground. It has a strong flow to it, and kept my eyes moving. Good design! Keep up the good work!! |
