I read on the challenge that it asks for Landscape format... Where i live, we have a lot of 'portrait' format billboards... Would that be acceptable or should i not risk it?

Bizarre challenge description: "Your submission should be in landscape orientation, and should be twice as wide as it is tall to simulate a common billboard aspect ratio (recommended submission size is 640x320 pixels)."
One wonders why on earth they didn't use the word "must"...
Any submission that is NOT in 2:1 landscape mode, at 640 wide x 320 high, is gonna get hammered by the voters. That's a given. The terms of the challenge guarantee it. Yet, the actual wording is deliverd as a suggestion, not a mandate...

IMO, "should" here needs to be read as "very strongly recommended." Certainly there are portrait billboards, however if the challenge description asks for landscape orientation, and even gives an aspect ratio, it would be foolhardy to ignore that if your score is important.
Conversely, if you have a photo that you really like, and that fits the challenge otherwise, and you don't really care about the actual score, well, no one has ever been DQ'd for not meeting the challenge.

you'll have to crop to a 2:1 ratio befor resizing. If you take your selection box, and in the tool bar scroll down where it says "Style:" to "Fixed Aspect Ratio", then type 2 in the first box, and 1 in the second. The selection tool will know only size itself to that ratio. Select how you want it to be cropped and then image>crop.
Now when you resize it, it should work. |

If we used the word "must" it would result in a metric crapload of DQ requests for every entry that is even 1 pixel off of the recommended dimensions. Site Council just does not have time to deal with that.
Our general philosophy is not to legislate that which can adequately be handled by the voters.
