like a old school crappy gif file and I can't figure out why. This is only in the preview. When I save the file and open it up it looks fine. Any ideas?

Could just be compressed/resize in such a way that it is at an awkward resampling percent.

I should have said that it didn't start doing it until my last hard drive wipe and reinstall. It never did it before and I didn't do anything different that I know of when I installed PS this time. PS6 if it makes a difference...

Could your monitor be set to 16 bit color?

Yes it is... Does that make a difference in the save for web preview window? The actual PS screen looks just fine...

One thing for sure, you need to be running 24-bit color for best viewing. 16-bit color often produces posterization on gentle gradients.

Other than that, make sure that you are not converting between color spaces. If your workflow is not fully color managed, set your camera to record in sRGB, and your working space to sRGB as well.

OK More details. RGB under color management is set to: sRGB IE61966-2.1. Color management RGB is off CMYK is off and Gray is off. Here is an example at real size:

When editing the shot everything looks fine. It's ONLY in the save for web preview...

Looks like a GIF set to Dither. Can you post a screen shot of your Save for Web settings?

In the 'save for web' settings, at the top right corner of the preview window, pick the drop down menu, and deselect 'browser dither'

The menu is the !> just to the left of the 'save' button.
