Greetings...

I have been contacted by a magazine in the UK called "Bizarre." Have any of you ever heard of it or seen it before? They want to use some of my photos and I know nothing about the publication....

They want to use a photo of a piercing that I did a while back and they have asked if i have more photos from the shoot. Is it a widely distributed publication? They said that they reach over 400,000 people per month.

They want this photo and they have asked if I have others from the shoot, which I do. I photographed the entire process of it happening. This photo was the end result of the process.

They didn't offer to pay me but I sent them a response with my price for use of the photo. I guess I'll see if they really want it or not.

I think Tower Records and Virgin Megastores carry that magazine.

It's more of a strange happenings and people magazine.. I've read issues with articles about weird viruses and things.. Like one where this dude/chick had a 3ft worm in his/her leg.. they had to coax it out with a pencil over several days.

I think there is some nudity,, but in more of an odd fashion (sometimes disgusting.. i.e. genital piercing,, STD's etc.). I'm not sure if it's the medium you are looking for. If you go to an 'underground' record or rag store you can probably find an issue.

They probably do reach that many people.. I live in colorado and have seen it around local stores (more of a 'specialty' item i guess) but you wont find it a kroger's (king soopers).

My problem with publications like this,, is do you really want your name associated with 'weird' stuff like leg worms? But it really depends on how they intend to use it. I really enjoyed some parts of the magazine because I myself am weird, and awed by formerly unkown stuff (it isn't unknown after you've seen, and learned about it).

I think a dude like me would get benefit from it, but someone of your caliber and talent doesn't need to waste time with 'foot in the door' publications.

for what it's worth..

Joe

edit: having seen the photo they want I'd say... exactly.

While I've never read it I have seen and heard of it, so it must be fairly well known. It's certainly stocked by our local WH Smiths, our biggest national chain of newsagents, so the distribution figures are possible.

Joe pretty much sums up the content I think, but I don't necessarily agree that it would be such a waste of time for you. Let us know what you decide if they spring for the cash.

It's absolutely everywhere... in fact, one of my colleagues in my part-time job brought it in a couple of days ago. The standard of photography is absolutely awful though, it's a celebration of bad taste. Artistic quality is not what they look for in their photos, it's a car-crash mentality magazine. I wouldn't be overly keen to have one of my photos in there for fear of association with the **** they have in the magazine. It does have a very wide readership though. Just the wrong kind in my opinion.

I've seen it before. Basically it's all about extreme stuff ... piercings, accidents, weird events. I thumb through it once in a while ... just like when we slow down at accident scenes, not wanting to see anything but still kinda wanting to see something.

If they want to buy it then they can use it. I'm not gonna give it to them and I'm not too worried about any negative associations of having my photo in that magazine. I just figured if they have a distribution of 400k per issue, they won't mind paying for it. I offered it to them for a very fair price.
