How can we have only 10mb's of space to sell prints and people have 20-30 prints for sale? My originals are about 2mb each, and if I double the resolution, they will go much higher.

the printable files don't count against the limit.

Edit: I beat bod to it

The print version doesn't count towards your limit - only the initial image you upload is counted.

Edit: Gah! Too slow!

Do you upload the larger version if a print sells? Pardon my ignorance, it's monday here.

You need to upload the printable file in order to either print them for yourself, or put them up for public sale. The sizes of the prints you can sell will depend on the size/resolution of the actual file you upload.
There's a link to a "Tips for Sellers" page somewhere...

You have to upload the larger (printable) version in order to put the photo up for sale. It will not even be available to purchase until you do so.

Edit: ouch. beaten this time.

Still even at 2mb for each print offered for sale, that only adds up to 5 prints per person, and I am seeing many more from some members, I think?!

Here's some help :)

You start out by uploading an image to your portfolio... this is NOT the print file. This is a small screen-viewable photo like your challenge entry. You should keep this file size small... i generally post my portfolio images at 75-100k.

AFter you have posted to your portfolio, you can go back to that image in your portfolio and add your print file... the print file does not count agains your 10mb space restriction...

Hope this helps :)

It is clearly stated in the help files and been said already in this discussion that the printable files you upload don't count against the 10mb limit.
You upload a 100kb file into your portfolio. That 100kb is deducted from the 10mb. When you want to print or sell that, you click on it and get the option to upload a printable file of that portfolio image. Here is where you upload the 2mb image and the size of the printable images combined doesn't matter.
You could have 10 images with a total of 500kb in your portfolio and upload 20mb (for example) printable files for them.
At 100kb each you can put 100 photo's in your portfolio and at 2mb each upload 200mb printable files for them. The prinable files have nothing to do with the maximum of portfolio images.

The printable (HiRes) images do not count against the quota. Only the small (<150k) file you upload to your portfolio counts. And entries do not count at all!
You can take the original an entry, re-crop it, clone out some wires, add a border, etc., then upload that HiRes image to be attached to your entry photo. Anyone who wants to buy a print will be shown an automatically generated preview of your modified print file, so they will see what they are buying.
For a completely new image, take the printable image, reduce the size to under 640 pixels and 150k, and upload to your portfolio. That WILL count towards the quota. Then upload the printable to be attached...

I am sure that I have uploaded larger files to the portfolio...

Yes, I have for example a 233kb file (more compression ruined detail) and it loads as a 233kb file in the browser. So you are not limited to 150kb.

This is correct -- there is no 150k limit on your portfolio entries.

Sorry, I meant to offer that as an example, not a limit. Although I think I did have a problem uploading a larger file once...but no problems since.

Separate DPC Prints question: have you posted optimum/minimum dimensions for the wallet-prints?

We have not posted it anywhere, but the wallets are 2.5" x 3.5". That enough? I'll add that to the FAQ.

That is more than plenty, and a bargain to boot. Especially since they will fit in those tiny, cheap frames! Thank you.

A note of interest about posting photos to your portfolio....

Since you are limited to 10mb, you may want to experiment with smaller file sizes when possible to conserve your space. Once you have prepared your image, save it at whatever size you normally would and then save it at about 75% and 50% of that size and see if you can tell any difference before you automatically upload the larger version.

I have uploaded 49 images (not challenge photos) to my portfolio and have only used 4mb of my 10mb maximum...

Adding to what John said, if you are uploading an image for your own private printing, it can be a tiny (icon-like) file, 5 or 10k; just something to which you can link the printable file.

Thanks for the in-depth discussion. I don't always read all the threads here, and the last one I did mentioned the 10mb quota and I thought that was for the printable files, too. Sorry to not have read the help files well enough either. I haven't even had time to upload any extras to my portfolio, or even resize and upload some of my more recent non-challenge photos to pbase. Wildflowers are in bloom and we have been doing some hiking and sight seeing in our most beautiful Ozarks, so have been spread a bit thin. My challenge entries this week are sure reflecting it, too!! Oh, well, my goal is to improve my photos, not to have a winner (although it wouldn't hurt my pride to have another someday!!).
