No. Usually those kits are composed of cheap accessories to make them seem like a good deal. You're better off buying the specific items you need.

The D2Hs is a speed camera, built for sports journalists.
It does not require xxx amount of megapixels.

Not a good comparison, that like saying a pentium 3 ghz processor is better than an AMD 64 bit 2 ghz processor. Its not just the number on the camera that makes it good..YEEEESH.

The Canon 1D Mark II is a speed camera also. It cost a few hundred more the the D2Hs but it is faster and double the resolution.

The pricing of the new d2H is just plain dumb, its not worth the upgrade sing the old d2h camera were very similiar and very cheap. All I was saying is that you cannot refer to a cameras quality by only looking at the megapixels, to be honest, megapixels are like gigaherts in computers, its all people look for and miss out on many other features that make it great.

Subject to correction, I think the 18-55 f 3.5-5.6 "kit" lens was the first EF-S. It was introduced at the same time as the 300D. A USM version is available in Japan and Europe but not in North America. And a Mark II version is coming out now with the 350D. Then came the 10-22 f 3.5-4.5 USM and the 17-85 f 4-5.6 IS USM at about the time the 20D was announced. And now the 60mm f 2.8 Macro USM.

The four EF-S lenses can be used only with the 300D, the 20D and the new 350D.

Wasn't/isn't there also a 55-200 EF-S that was/is sold to compliment the kit lens on the tele side?

i agree with this but yeah mp are definitely not the whole deal. I would trade my d70 for a d2h any day and pay a few extra hundred for it. i dont know how often i would print my images bigger than 16x20 anyways.
I also kinda thing canon is just throwin out camera after camera, they put out good products, but i dont think they have anything that can compare with the d2x either. d2x is studio and sport camera in one, and less the price than canons studio camera. im aware of the 1dsMk2, still rather go with d2x.

Given that over 70% of the photographers covering the last Olympics used Canon, it would seem that they manage quite well.

And if I wanted one, where could I get one of these elusive D2X cameras?

this question will probably sound silly but hey...

is there such a thing as a trade in deal, send in your 300D and a hundred or so dolars for a 350D?

There were threads last fall about trading up to a 20D when those came out... wonder how that works with those of us who have extended warranties and all that crud. It's worth a call to your retailer, I guess. The worst they can say is "no." Well, maybe "Hell no!" ;o)

Maybe the wrong question above.....What will this lens do for me?

75-300 LD F4-5.6 FS=62 / CANON EOS

I am looking for a good zoom.

There is a Canon 55-200 f 4.5-5.6 USM Mk II, but it's an EF lens, not EF-S. All of the EF lenses can be used on the EF-S bodies.

Lenses come in 3 broad quality categories: consumer (i.e. cheap, <$200), amateur 200-600 and Pro, $600+) Sigma offers several 70-300 zoom lenses at different price points. The cheap one is $150, the better one is the APO Super 2 for about $220.
Fredmiranda.com has reviews...
Canon 75-300 IS USM
canon 75-300 III
Canon 70-300 DO

I am new to the FM forums, but i don't see the Sigma zooms listed there...

When all of you are ready to leave the honeymoon suite and the glow has worn off, I'm curious what the BAD points are for 350? So far, the only thing that concerns me is that they've switched batteries to one that effectly only has 65% of the charge of what's in the 300. Less power=less shots before you need to switch. That's a downgrade. I'm sure there's other cons too... I'm inclined to think that the better move if I were to upgrade would be to go for the 20D rather than another Rebel.

...just my $0.02

The new battery has less capacity, but the 350 XT consumes less power, so the number of shots per charge is about the same according to Canon. FWIW- I have access to a 20D any time I want to use it, but now I'll be upgrading the the 350XT as my next camera. The differences aren't that big.

Canon has listed it on their site now. I looked a day or two ago and it wasn't up then. //consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=11154

So, you'd select the XT over the 20D? That says something...
02/18/2005 01:55:10 PM · #149
Why does Canon use smaller sensors that magnify the lense FOV? The preview articles say how the sensor size is the same, but the resolution is higher and how they had to do a lot of work to make all of these pixels fit...so is it a matter of space in the camera? Could they not fit in a 35mmx24mm sensor so that there is a direct correlation between the lense and the image on both film and digital cameras?

I understand that the magnification factor has some advantages, but it seems that it is fairly simple to get a good long lense and fairly hard to get a good wide angle lense...why make it harder?

Just wondering...I may want to waste my money on one of these one day.

Yup- it says that (for my needs) there isn't $400 worth of difference between the two.
