Monsoon wedding was a typical insight in how weddings in North India go about. Well ofcourse there was the usual Hindi movie masala(spice) but overall thats how things go about here. Again not very arty per say but interesting yes.

saurabhv,
I attended a showing of the Indian film "Lagaan" here in Chicago a couple of years ago based on the good reviews and its Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. I didn't know walking in that the film was four HOURS long. It took up my whole afternoon, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. |

Milo (bill),
Yes 'Lagaan' was a phenomenon here in India too. There was a big lobby behind the oscar nomination too and at that time even I thought it should have gotten the oscar but after watching the movie that actually got the Oscar I think that movie truly deserved it.
In todays plethora of hindi movies I think the movie 'Black' truly deserves an Oscar. Its not that long (half the lenth of Lagaan) but more appealing, atleast to me. Another movie that has made it big in recent times here is 'Swades' a truly inspiring movie for all Non resident Indians. A good eye opener on the true state of rural India.

I recently saw Girl with a Pearl Earring and I couldn't stop drooling over the beautiful lighting. Each scene was beautifully done as well. I really liked the movie.

I saw 'The Man Who Wasn't There' for the 4th time last week. To me it's cinematography at it's best.

I've seen Amelie, its a french movie with subtitles but who needs the subtitles? Don't know if that movie counts as eye candy, but I still thought it was interestingly set up |

I just saw Shrek II. Like some of the other recent animations, I kept getting distracted by the beautiful renderings of the animation.
Are we only talking recent movies? Some of my favorite eye and brain candy movies from College that stuck with me:
- Zardoz - low budget but cool sci fi with Sean connery
- Seven Beauties - Lina Wertmueller's superb movie
- The Stunt Man - Peter O'toole in a sexy mind-bender
- King of Hearts
or from a bit earlier period:
- Catch 22
I love all movies--even bad ones. Well ok, not bloody slasher pics. However, I do have to say that I found the scene in Hannibal, where they are at the dinner table, just amazing eye candy. Can't say more: if you didn't see it, or don't want to watch it, that's the scene to watch.

I watched IRobot this weekend and it certainly has some amazing special effects and great eye candy. Maybe not the best plot and storyline.....but still a good flick.

We watched that recently--I agree. Not one I'll rent and watch again, but we all were expecting a so-so movie and found it to be pretty good!
Edit: Anyone here seen "The Ring"? I thought that was a fantastic horror flick!

The English Patient was one I thought had excellent visuals, esp. where it's shot in the desert... |
