My photo finished 65% or 76th place. I was really happy with it am and upset by the low scores. I got 5 1's, 12 2's, and 28 3's. I don't rate things below 4 unless there it doesn't meet the challenge, is severly out of focus AND lacks composition. It has to be a very bad photo to get a very bad score.
I really would like to know why it was rated so low. Most of the comments were positive, so...

Bibliophile: Composition is very good (not very original, but good :) maybe the light was a little hard... if You have headache you usually goes to a dark place, so I did not believe very much your picture |

Thanks, Ryan. That's exactly what I was aiming for... I just couldn't find smoother rocks. I think many people just saw what they assumed was pixelization within the camera and brought out the voting axe. I was hoping the challenge connection would be strong enough to override the grain, and I was actually more worried about the appeal factor. Lesson learned. |

scalvert: I didn't see the rocks until I read your description. Voters here tend to like "feel-good" images, I think. Pics that are clean and clear, nice colors; warm & fuzzy stuff. The grainy feel probably did work against you. Also, I think the colors look a little over-saturated (understandable, when you know what you're looking at). I gave you a 7.
Hardcore: With your description, I can see the image. Reminds me of a carved pumpkin.
fotodude: More power to you. Didn't work for me.
Tallbloke: Absolutely, yes.
Bibliophile: I liked your shot alot. I think it needed to be more "artsy" to do better here. |

I understood it! Im sorry you didnt get placed higher....you deserved too! I thought it was a very clever idea and you deserved to come in the top 20.
Originally posted by Hardcore Poser: Well it seems no one understood my picture, but because so many people asked me what it was of or how it related to pain, i will now describe. The picture was of the Classroom Administration and Labratory building at Cal Poly Pomona. I thought it looked like a sad painful face. The stains along the side of the building even look like tears. I kinda thought not too many people would understand it though.

I was completely awe struck with my fifth place, never expected that. It was a pic I needed to shoot in a way. My mom was really suffering from my grandmother's death and in a way taking a photograph of her sorrow made her feel better. So once again I'd like to thank everybody that voted and especially the ones that left the nice comments.
I really do hope this challenge wasn't a fluke though.
