We don't allow multi exposure as a rule unless its in camera so why not make an exception for these 2 challenges.
Multi exposure, Overlay 2 - 5 individual exposures to create an image.
Panorama, Stitch 2 - 5 individual exposures to create a panorama photo.

problem is that the panoramas are silly at 640 pixels width. |

I often wish we could go beyond the 640 max -- of course, 56k and under modem users, and those with low resolution settings would hate us for it.

yea I like the panorama idea, but several things would need to be done. The editing would have to allow for use of some sort of panoramic software and extend the width of the entry for only this challenge. I think its a great idea.

I'm for this... the point of this community in my eyes is to challenge us and make us try new things, because of the ruleset here I don't often try techniques such as multi-exposure and panoramas. |

It would also create quite a headache in validating images -- do you really think it's going to be fun to have to take maybe five uploaded mages (per entry) and see if we think the final image was created from them?
I think it would only work if we basically suspended all the rules -- including when the photos have to be taken, so there would basically be no DQs except for outright plagarism. |

I think that would be a real shame ..... but yup, I agree, otherwise the whole thing would be unmanagable for the SC.
I think the plaguarism would have to be that ALL the images are your own though, not that the resulting image is new (i.e. using 4 photos you took and then a photo you grab off the net, would not be legal) ..... and the only DQ reason would be if someone recognised any one of the images as belonging to someone else.

... and TOS violations, of course. ;)

But does a panoramic HAVE to contain more than one image pasted together? I know mine usually contain at least 3 but if you crop a regular pic down you get the long narrow appeareance of a panoramic. Isn't this how the advantage cameras make the panoramics? That would help on the size restrictions.

I would be for it by the way.

Here's my take on a panorama: a celebration of the lunar eclipse and the Red Sox World Series win. This respects the 640 size limit. It consists of ten photographs of the moon at about 15 minute intervals during the eclipse and one photo of a baseball in the center with text celebrating the event.
