I have to say this is one of the most difficult challenges for me to give scores to. I found most of the pictures to be simply pictures of signs with no technical, artistic or creative inspiration. Was this a contest to see who could find the funniest sign? Or was it to challenge our ability to make a rather lackluster theme look interesting? Yes, there were several shots where imagination was used, photographic integrity was obeyed and technical excellence was achieved. For these I gave the highest scores. But honestly, most were pictures of signs with distracting backrounds, cute but unoriginal, just rather blah. I always grade on the curve so my scores were probably higher for most pictures than they deserved, but I was wondering what everyone else was thinking. Not to say that I haven't submitted some rather bad pictures myself in many challenges. So I hope no one thinks I am being egotistical. I am not singling out any particular picture. Just making a broad observation based on the overall quality of pictures in this challenge versus other challenges.

I voted pretty much along the same lines as you've described. I think it's really hard to make a sign look that creative or interesting, and certainly a challenge to make a photo of one interesting enough to want to frame and hang on your wall. Not because of lack of technical prowess or imagination, but because the signs themselves are rather blah and dull. I think I've heard it mentioned on here many times...it's hard to polish a turd. ;o)
That being said, there were at least 10 or so that I found to be really well executed and would consider putting on a wall somewhere. :o)

We must not forget this is a photographic site and quality of images should play a part in our voting.
My opinion anyway.

For me I looked for interesting photograph that CONTAINED a road sign. A road sign had to be in the picture. I judged the photograph by quality as long as a road sign was in the picture, 'Visible'. I kind of voted like I do in the light challenge. The subject 'light' had to be visible but the quality and background or secondary subject needed to be eye catching. I hope that makes since.

Yeah, tough to score this one. I'm having to consciously avoid "voter fatigue". My view is that it's about composition and technical excellence. There are a few -- as always -- that seem to miss the point of having a topic for the challenge. |

I feel the same way, I think I've given a 5 to 99% of the photos I voted on sofar and I'm half way through, only 2 got my attention and got me to smile or to think, oh yes here's a 10.
My input seems lack luster as well and the comments I've gotten sofar concentrated on part of the photograph that if left out would loose the meaning completely of what I wanted say.....they said it was in the way! Go figure?
