First off let me say that one or two of my outtakes from Best of '04 resemble photos in the challenge. They aren't mine. These are nothing like the one I entered.

First are my architecture outtakes, neither of which I liked. I ended up chosing my entry for the drama of the lighting and angle; these others I just find to be quite boring, especially the first one. I ran out of time, though.

These are photos that I considered for Best of '04. All around, I think I chose the best one as my actual entry, but I did really consider using the Shasta picture instead. The ocean one I didn't really consider, due to the fact that there's just too much pixelation from compressing it, but I thought I'd share it because I thought it was pretty. Same with Still Death, really. I personally consider them up there (well, and some of those in my portfolio, but I wasn't going to enter something I'd posted already) but I have strange taste, and I didn't really want them to get trashed in a challenge :) Nonetheless, criticism and comments on any of these would be greatly appreciated.

I think of the two outtakes for architecture and the one you entered, the one you entered was the strongest of the three. Simple Angles is nice but the sky is a bit dark and the angle kind of decreases the impact of the graceful arches on the windows. Gracefully Aged is a bit tilted for my tastes and isn't that visually interesting at that particular angle. Perhaps if you had more time there are other angles and details you could experiment with. I love old houses and I would love to learn how to take interesting and exciting shots of the great details and craftsmanship that went into their construction.

The Best of outtakes are beautiful, all three of them. I really like Still Death the most. It's very emotive and I LOVE the detail in the tiny web (I have strange taste too!). Savage Beauty is really a great shot, pixelation notwithstanding. It doesn't have the "WOW" factor that most voters go for, though. Shasta Vista is gorgeous, and would probably have fared pretty well. It seems to be technically sound and is a landscape shot that I would expect to see on a calendar or something. :o)
