Lisae, I have a question about that because my oldest daughter keeps asking me to make an account for her. I've held off but I know that others do it in here. I just want to be sure it's okay. I'm kind of holding off too, because of the comments I know that she may receive and I feel like I would be more defensive if it were anything rude or nasty. I don't know..

I know this has nothing to do with this thread so in keeping with the discussion...I looked back at my voting and saw that I gave the photos both the same score....even though at the time, I didn't even realize that they were that similar. (or at least used the same subject)

If it's truly okay to make an account for your child I want to give it some more thought.....but I think she could learn a lot too. And I'd like that part of it.

Anyone's thoughts on this?

Sorry lisae but I said never that it should be disqualify either one of the photo´s I was just pointing this out in hope to hear others meaning on this one. But in these two photos I think it is the same user because it is the same setup and every thing is the same and that is the thing that I don't like. He or she that took this photo can if he want put a gallery on the web (fx www.bpase.com)if he/she want to show his work. THats all from me

the admins DO monitor for multiple accounts.

A) accounts that sign in from the same IP address are flagged for further observation and monitoring, and

B) accounts that only give each other 10's and give everyone else a low score or even a medium score also are flagged.

hope that helps..

so does that mean if I let my daughter have an account....I'm gonna be monitored?
08/23/2002 08:03:59 AM · #30
yep .. but as long as nothing weird is going on, then it's cool.

and just to put it into perspective, we're ALL monitored - there's a million different 'fairness checks' going on this site nonstop.

that's just another one to catch people who abuse the sys by creating multiple accts for the purpose of cheating.

I still have a few years before I need to worry about this (see New DP Challenger) but I'll have no problem creating her an account as soon as i think she is old enough to handle the wilds of the internet... That should be in about 27 more years :) 5 years before I'll let her date :)

But each parent will need to decide when their children are ready... I plan to make it a household rule (I get to set one ever now and then... The household even pays attention to them every blue moon or so...) that if my wife or daughter join, no one in the family will be allowed to vote on a family member's picture...

But that's just me :)

Anyone know of a spellchecker that will work in forums?

Well..I agree about the internet. But anytime my daughter is online, I'm in the room with her. I also keep an eye on her history and she knows my rules well enough that I really do trust her. We speak openly about things most moms and their 11 year olds wouldn't. I'm happy with that and hopefully when she becomes this horrible teenager that everyone keeps warning me about...it really won't be that bad. Anyway..I digress.

I'll have to give this some more thought at any rate. She really has an interest in photography and her teacher is even having a photography class this year in school. She keeps asking to take my 35mm and I guess I'll end up letting her. I just like to be able to let my kids express themselves creatively...I don't ever want to hold that back from them.

Anyway..thanks for the comments y'all.

Karen

I use Spell Catcher.

I was wondering how that worked. IMO, that would be a really hard thing to police.
My boyfriend created an account when he was here visiting over the summer. He wanted to compete with me in a challenge, and he won ;oP
Our pics were uploaded from the same IP and were taken on the same day in the same place so I guess we were monitored.
Unfortunately, he's gone home to Sweden now and doesn't have his own digital camera yet so he won't be entering again any time soon.

I actually enjoy watching members of the same family compete. The Pattee family has a whole squadron of people on here and I enjoy seeing their different photos, scores and comments. Matter of fact, my little brother wants to also do some challenges and see how his photos do. He's had some really great ideas, and I told him to go for it. My cousin is homeschooled and her mother said it would be a great learning and training for her art class to participate in something like this as well. I found that I get so excited about it and talk about it a lot, that it's hard for the people around me to not want to be involved. I am all for families getting into this. Plus, it makes families closer when they share a common interest. I do however think that they should come up with their own ideas and photos.

Somthing else that I thought of that might have happened is that it may have been a new user, submitted a photo and then got a better one and didn't realize they could simply delete it and submit the new one, so they made a new account. It's not fair for us to judge what is going on until we have heard both sides. We will find out for sure on monday.
Also, I realize no one was actually doing any judging, I just wanted to remind everyone to think fairly until we have heard both sides.

Absolutely, I think you're spot on. I always give people the benefit of the doubt so I'd assumed from Go that this is a genuine case of two family members entering.

My mother and i are both addicted to this site and that becomes a problem with pictures. When we both have the same idea, we argue forever on who should get to do it. Sometimes we find other things. Actually we're having that problem for the current challange! :-) So, heather, it doesn't always bring u closer :-) Oh, and we always compete over who has the better score and for the first time im winning. YEA!!!!!

LOL.Congrats on the score. Photography definately brings my family together. My son is 2, I just turned 23, and he loves getting his photo taken as much as I love taking it. I've been married for 4 years and this week my hubby asked me for the first time to take some pics of something for him. (ok, so it was his car, but STILL LOL). He asks me how my photo is doing and I get all excited and instead of just telling him how it's doing, I have to SHOW him. lol I really enjoy it here.
Good luck in the challenge!!

Well it appears that it's a husband and wife team.

To my mind the photos were better than the scores they received. I wonder how much the result was influenced by the fact that they both used the same setup.

Let's play this game again

Can you spot the photos again?
I already have them ;)
