Just got rid of my Tokina 28-70 and need to replace it with something. Think I'm too pampered with my formal canon 28-70L (which has since fogged) nothing seemed to come close to that...
Have anyone tried the Sigma 24-70? The reviews seemed too good to be true!!! Fast AF, sharp images... good saturation..
Anyone with any comments? And what sort of price should I be paying?
Thanks.. :o) |

I have had one for about a year now, and its been a great lens. No complaints.....but.......I had the opportunity to borrow the canon 24-70L for a shoot last week, and I can actually see an improvement in contrast and clarity, not to mention it was silent! I still love my sigma lens, and it does its duties.......but I am getting L glass soon! I've been converted. You get what you pay for, I guess?

The Tamron is well regarded too, but I agree with Brian here, the Canon 24-70 f/2.8L is just in another league. It's my walk-around lens for my Mark II

Hmmm.. that's true...
Sigh.. I just felt that the Canon L is too costly.
Especially after my last one fogged out and I had to let it go for a discounted price ... *cry*
I am also considering the Tamrons... there's a 28-135 (supposed to be very good but it's a 3.5-5.6)
and... a 28-75 (I think.. but don't know how this match up to the sigma)

I have the 28-75 Tamron and I love it. On one of the lens sites, I think this Tamron was rated 4.1 vs. 4.2 for the Canon 24-70L. |

I have used this lens a few times. One of my friends has one and I wanted to see how it stacked up to the Canon 24-70 f/2.8L. All I can say is that there is no comparison. The AF is not nearly as fast as the Canon. It's also not as quiet. The lens is no sharper than any of the other non L canon lenses I have used. It is cheaper and it is f/2.8, which is good though.

I haven't had my Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 off my camera since I got it. It's an excellent lens.
