Anyone have experience with these?

Which is best for a PaD project is what I'm really asking. I've got a PaD set up at PBase, but I don't really love it.

I've tried to slog through the various PaD threads, but didn't find any info comparing or recommending any site over the others.

Also, do you have any guidelines for image sizing prior to upload? I've been using 800 pixels as my max dimension for my PBase uploads, but it leaves the images either too big at original and too small at medium.

Any other suggestions or recommendations for PaDding?

Thanks,
Ara

Well, when it works, I like PBase. As far as image size, I've found that 600-650 on the longest side works well.

ok, thanks guys. are there any templates you know of/can share that are nicer than the basic ones?

Pbase has some functionality to "design" your own template from stock "components." I made one with a neutral, light gray background.

Another vote for pbase.

I love smugmug for storage (unlimited) and ease of use, and also since it's so dang cheap. Buzznet is OK for a PaD project, but I'm not sure about it's features if you pay for the upgrade. I just use the free account to host my PaD. At least give smugmug a lookover, it's great! :o)

I use Smugmug, and I really like it. Great look and features..

I use Buzznet for my photo a day. I like it alot and you can upload 60 photos a month for free. Downside is small images, maximum length of 400px on the longest side.

But, I am satisified.

I really love Smugmug. It would work great for PaD and any other sharing you want to do. No storage limit!

Uploads are quick and easy.
You can upload large, full size images.
You can sort in several ways.
They offer password protection.
Ability to make albums public, or not
Allow visitors access to print options, or not
Can block viewing of original file sizes
Can link images to forums
Can make "Share with friends" button visible, or not
Lots of bandwidth
And what really sold me - There is NO STORAGE LIMIT!
You also earn $10 for each referral which can add up.
Fairly new addition to the site is the message board

I would also like to add that I've emailed Smugmug with suggestions and praise and they replied within 24 hours. They are very nice and helpful.

Remember, if you order something other than the basic package (which has been plenty for me) you will get even more bandwidth, ability to upload video clips, and more customization.

Also see this thread and this thread.

Good luck. And feel free to use me as a referral on Smugmug. ;-) (It will save you $5)

$23 a year for 200 MB is what Pbase offers. I have been on there since Oct and I still have my full 12 month credit. I read that it doesn't start taking your credits till you have used up 200 MB, so you really aren't being charged anything till you have 200 MB of pictures on there. Check this out if what I said doesn't make enough sence.

I'm pretty sure it will round up to the nearest 200 MB -- so if you use 80 MB, it will just say you used 200 MB and take one credit. Which is still a heck of a deal -- $2 a month is great in my opinion.

I don't recommend Buzznet for anything too serious...I use it for my PaD and I have my "portfolio" there for now but at 400pix on the long side you can't really get a good look at the photos.

Pbase seems really neat. DeviantArt bugs me because they try and make it too fancy. Smugmug seems pretty good.

I have a DeviantArt account which I wish I could trade for Pbase...

I use blogger, which is a Google appendage. It's very simple to work with, and free. I typically post 400 px images using the tinypic.com free photo hosting service, and just link to them in my blog entries. If you're interested in checking it out, click the link for OpenAperture in my signature.

You can get pretty crazy with templates, but being a computer engineer I knew I'd do more tinkering than posting, so I chose something as simple as I could find.
