I put a 67mm Hoya circular polarizer on my D70's kit lens yesterday and I must've had it just ever so slightly off the threads, cause now I can't get the filter off. Before I wreck the filter and the lens trying to unscrew the dang thing, which direction should I be trying to turn it to get it off?

Facing the lens, turn anti-clockwise

And while I've always been taught that as well, I'm never sure anymore. The back caps for my lenses tighten with a turn to the left (counterclockwise) and loosen with a turn to the right (clockwise).

Lefty loosy, righty tighty. Counterclockwise. I usually use a 24oz framing hammer to tap it loose. Or run it under hot water for a while. No, really, they make little plastic clamps for removing stuck filters. Kind of like the things you buy to loosen jar lids. Try B&H or Smile.

Use a huge rubber band or a couple of them on the outside and turn. Works for me :)

I used one of those thin, flat, pot-holder shaped, rubbery, square things you use to open jars with to get one off my Kodak once and it works like a charm.

Really? Canon, Sigma, and Olympus follow the righty tighty rule. I wonder why Nikon went the opposite. Keep people from switching caps with other brands or something?
