This challenge is going to be sweet.
One of the first times I've been genuinely excited the second I saw it (normally it takes me a couple of days to figure something out). |

Damn, this of course is how I earned my living back in the day. But try finding a good architecture shot on Cape Cod in midwinter, unless there's a good snow cover... Snow's all gone now... We can pray...
Of course, none of these have the DPC-classic eye-candy factor...

As, of course, does Kylie...

Yura,
are you KIDDING? Washington DC is a treasure trove of Federal style architecture. Check out Georgetown. And don't forget allt he monuments; a really good mood shot of the Lincoln Memorial, for example, would troll up a lot of votes.

Yeah, i know, it's just i don't like much those landscape type shots with buildings in them. I'm a lot more into abstract pieces of buildings and such, like the cancer center shot above. And i like NYC a lot more than DC. I'll try to find something though. |

I might have to set aside another day of shooting in Toronto for this one! Although, nobody can be excused...every town has some great architectural detail, including my hometown...

This one really stands out as something special...I love it. You should make a print available...it's only about the second photo on this site I've ever thought about buying in print.
Not because I don't love most photos on this site, but this shot really has that timeless factor!

Here are some other images and artists to view for inspiration:
e301: gerdagrice:
kosmikkreeper: fristrich1:
nordic: xion: bobsterlobster: and pjohns and Many Many others. take a look around.
One other is Jak King whose work I was familiar with prior to my being at DPChallenge. I was hoping he might make a re-appearance for this challenge:

Simple idea: set the camera on TIMER and BURST MODE drop if from a window up high. have a catcher to keep at least teh memory card alive.
If it tumbles just right you will have a tremendous shot!

Yura,
Yeah, but both Federal period architecture and the monuments have a wealth of great details for the shooting. In general, older architecture and classic architecture reward the loving pursuit of details far more than most modern architecture does. Modern architetcure has the WOW factor built in sometimes, allt hat reflectivity and contrasting materials is easy to work with, but...
Don't give up man! Shoot some windows. Shoot some doorways. Shoot some colonnades. Go for texture. Go for the expressive image. Make it sing! I wish to hell I were in DC right now...

I think that qualifies as "out of the box" thinking : )
Might void the warranty though ... |
