Darn... I have a photoshoot with a poledancer on the 12th... I'm sure I could have found a suitable film title somewhere. ;-) This is really just an open challenge.

How 'bout "Polar Express"?

This would probably be too much of a stretch but I was going to put a bunch of money in the toilet or stuffed in a drain and call it "GLITTER" (remember that box office bomb?). Just shot my submission this morning and will upload it tonight. Good luck everyone...update..just shot pictures at lunch and am now TOTALLY stuck on which of 3 I should use...dang it.

Think it has to be a movie that has been made, you use the title as title of your pic.

Then you take a picture that fits your title.

My approach is more like: what title from a search at imdb.com fits my image? :)

That's a nice way to get things done, but I don't think it meets the spirit of the challenge. It shouldn't be that hard to find an interesting title before starting to shoot. I found loads, I'll still have to decide which one I'm going to do.

Well, consider that if you don't like to do studio / setup stuff and that this time of year does not present much interesting to be extremely creative outdoors (for most, some are so fortunate to live in a very interesting landscape all year round). In that case there is nothing wrong to be creative, try to get something good just for your own sake and see if it matches a movie title by accident. As long as you create good photography and don't try to get crap in for the sake of participating it should be fine to approach it this way.

As I can't afford to fly to Thailand right now, I am going to have to put some serious thought into how to interpret "Lesbian Nurse Lavatory Lust in Bangkok" to form my entry.

Naturally it goes without saying it willl be a most tasteful shot ;)

Should have saved my idea for this challenge....

Purple Rain

There is some confusion here. I started a thread to get the definition polished.

here is my understanding:

First, the title must be from a movie.
Now, you could do a parody and so name it. You can do a still from a movie and so name it. In other words, you are not required to exemplify a scene from an actual movie. It could be a scene from a movie or a parody or an artistic take provided the title of the movie matches your image.

Kirbic explained it best, he said it is wide open. Please see his comments on the other thread under Q.A. Question to the editors about challenges. When the description said it does not have to be...they are saying that it can but it does not have to be from a movie.

Is this even possible? Or is it allowed to reference some details of a movie one is afraid the voters may not have seen? Like (made-up title) "Broken Wings" -- A WWI movie about the aerial battles over France.

I have a picture I like very much, shot specifically to reference a movie I love, which I am afraid many viewers will not have seen...

It would be a shame if people are negatively voting because the haven't heard of the title you've used.

I think it should be mandatory that everyone use IMDB prior to doing this. This is the best movie database available.

EDIT...and if the movie isn't there...WHO CARES...judge on creativity for crying out load...lets not be so damn militant in anlayzing these challenges ;o)

Do you guys think that part of a movie title would work? like it has two parts but only use half of it?
01/06/2005 11:55:34 PM · #46
In many movies it won't even be necessary to check the database out, even IF the movie is unknown to you. Some movie I have never seen, with a title "Wild Hearts Must Live Free" accompanied by, say, a photo of a dejected-looking chimpanzee in the corner of a cage, would require no further thought to realize the relationship of image to title.

Asd RMTM states, it would be nice if voters who don't "get it" checked the dtabase to see if they're missing something...

I definatly was excited to find that my first challenge topic is Movie titles. I am a big movie fan, and I already submitted a photo. It didnt take long to think something up. Just thought of a good movie, and I decided to get creative! hope people like it.

Man am I really pissed right now. I have a photograph that I absolutely love for the challenge that I think would do well and receive some very interesting comments at the least. Unfortunately, I just noticed that it was basic editing and having already spot edited it to my tastes there is no way for me to be pleased enough with the basic version to use it in the challenge.

Oh well, I'll come up with something else. I love these challenges, basically a free study if you want it to be and you get the chance to be very creative.

Good luck everyone.
