Now that is rude. Even though there are a lot of candid type shots, some small, and some out of focus there are a few that went to great attempts to create a well composed photograph. And in my opinion there are a few that looks good. You have the right to feel the way you do but setting that type tone will not help anyone learn from experience. Just my 2 cents
Note: I do NOT have an entry in this challenge so my comment is not bias.

Relax. It was a joke. For the most part anyway - because of the number of disappointing entries. But chill out. :) |

Thanks for clarifying that you were joking [ hard to tell on the computer]. Sorry for jumping the gun and assuming! Again thanks for clearing that up for me.

Gosh folks, shouldn't we judge what is presented to us? I agree some of the photos lack technical merit, many don't show much of a relationship, and dogs/cats do get repetitous, but don't cloud your judgement for the others.
I judged them for what I saw. I believe my scores are running lower than normal (not that I profess to be an expert), but I think that is because I don't see that "special" relationship between pet and owner in many of the shots, especially when the owner was not pictured. I knew there would be a lot of dogs/cats but I try to judge each one as if it I had never seen a dog picture before.
On the other hand, just holding an animal is not much of a relationship.
But I gave a fairly high score to the relationship between the lady and the alligator/croc she was hugging. If she could hug it and it tolerated being hugged without eating her, it must be a good relationship. It did look live. |

I have to appologize to those of you that hate the "snapshots". I posted my very first picture in this challenge and I don't really know what I'm doing. My picture was a "lucky" shot in my eyes, even if it was a snapshot! I have no studio lighting or backdrops and I have a small typical camera (nothing fancy). Anyone have an suggestions on how I can get around these things without spending money on expensive equipment? I posted so that I could get some good feedback!
Thanx!

Mpalitang- first edit your post to take out the description of your entry. You do not have to apologize to anyone for your picture. That̢۪s the way it works here, you enter a challenge and learn. Glad to see you entered a challenge, good luck in this challenge and many more.

It was my first post as well, and I had a hard time trying to think of an interesting way to capture the relationship between owner and animal, and I have to say that is also how I judged, not so much on lighting and technical stuff, although those that mastered combining the relationship and technical got higher scores from me. Just my 2 cents!! hehe

Looks like 6.66 on Conflict.
In another thread one photographer had a 7.... average and mine is hanging around 6.5 so it shouldn't be the lowest this time around.

I guess I'm doing exactly how I thought I would... I'm holding a 4.9 which I think is pretty good for my very first submission... especially since I have no training what so ever and only know how to use the "auto" on my camera... I should read the manual :D |

That is pretty good for your first try. You must be a natural. |

No... I think it's more likely the content of my photo... instead of the actual quality of it! I wasn't one of the dog or cat ones... I think that may have helped! hehe ;) |
