I initially plan on submitting a print file seeing that the original photographer doesn't have it on DPCPrints, not sure if there is anywhere. I thought about the plagiarism issue so I plan to pm the photographer after the challenge if he would agree.

Yeah, how does that work? Would you need to buy the rights to your own photograph?

I don't know... it's really tricky that I may even drop the idea. It's your photo but the concept isn't.

I, for one, would rate something like this higher than just a copy of the original, as long as there is an obvious connection and it's well executed. Personally, i interpret the challenge more along the lines of 'pay a tribute to a ribbon image', rather than the literal 'copy or parody'.

I like the 'variation of a theme' approach to this challenge. I would much rather see someone learn by taking an idea and creating their interpretation of it. I also agree that *my* favorite ribbon winners on this site are not some that I could improve.

I think there are probably several trains of thought on this... 1. You may score well if you create an exact duplicate. You may not, however, because the newness of that image/idea has worn off over time. 2. You may score well if you make a creative interpretation of a great photo without duplicating it exactly. Likewise, you may not if the voter is looking for exact duplicates. 3. The parody with the highest level of humor will win the challenge. :)

I'm very pleasantly surprised by the number of people saying that they are looking for 'tribute' images rather than 'copies'. Gives me a little hope, at least, of not being dismissed out of hand.

I'll be surprised if a humourous shot wins - that's been very rare outside of humour challenges (and yes, I know it has happened).

Mine is also similar but not identical, so I guess there are plenty of us in the same boat.

I have a feeling i'm gonna get a lot of this doesn't fit the challenge, because only the subject is similar, the rest is not even close! But it was an inspired by type thing, and it gave me the idea.
