I got up around 5:30 this morning even though it's not a work day, and decided to head out on the same drive I always take to work so that I could stop in the places I always admire as the sun comes up. I am learning more and more about my rebel every time I use it, whether or not it shows in the pictures I take. I'm having fun, which I think is much more important anyway. Just being out in nature at sunrise does something to your psyche that I can't explain. It also helps that I'm a morning person. I realized yesterday that far too often I let time become my enemy and I never stop to appreciate the beauty that surrounds me every day. I take it for granted. Today I decided to change that, and before I get all mushy, I'll just say the experience for me was bordering on the semi-religious. I hope that you guys, wherever you may live, work, or otherwise travel, find the beauty that surrounds you too, even if you don't try to capture it with a camera. Just appreciate it for what it is. Lots of hugs and happy holidays!!! :o)
Here are the pics from this morning's adventure; don't worry about comments or critiques if you don't want to or don't have time. I just wanted to share my experience and my beautiful Texas with y'all!

I'm glad you like your new camera, and putting it to such good use as a means of recording your feelings and images you have seen. Photography isn't all about technically perfect studio shots, it's an aid to your memory.
I work outside all the time and regularly have my camera at work with me, not to get a photo for the latest challenge, but to capture something that catches my eye at that time.
Using your photography in such a way makes you more aware of just how great this world is, and how colourful it can be. Thanks so much for sharing your feelings and bringing photography back to its basic concept, a recording medium.
Good Luck with your photos in the future! |

Rebel Woohoo! Nice shots Laurie. I particularly like the sixth one on the first page. I like the perspective and the mist... Very proud of you for getting up so bright and early, I couldn't do that! :)
Keep em' coming,

That's a pretty nice drive to work you have there Laurie and the pictures aren't too bad either! :-) Quite nice actually, my favorite being the second one on the second page with the big trees to the left. Very nice and thanks for sharing.
I'm jealous, being that I don't have a ride to work, I don't think to get out early in the morning to get these types of shots.
Note to self: get your butt out of the house every once and awhile!! :-) |

wow, nice shots. i think you may have convinced me to start waking up earlier for my shots (or, staying up later, the way it's been lately.. yikes!) - i really like "1 of 15" on the first page and "8 of 12" on the second. "12 of 15" on the first page is also nice. keep it up!

Your words really hit home for me - morning can be a "semi-religious" experience for me also. I unfortunately never see it (I cannot do mornings no matter how hard I seem to try), but when I do manage to, there is nothing like it. Your post is an inspiratin to maybe try a little harder. Great shots, Laurie. My two faves are #1 and #8. You are doing splendidly with the Rebel. I also want to echo Formelee's sentiment that we need to remember to use our cameras for these other importatnt reasons also.

Thanks y'all... it really was nice to be outside at that time of day, just me and nature. Kind of a battery recharger of sorts. Thanks for your encouragement, kind words, and support. It's hard to believe I've been here only 8 months, because I feel like I've learned a lifetime of information in that short span. The best part however, is the fact that some of the members here have become like family to me. Y'all have a great holiday season and don't forget to recharge your OWN batteries sometimes! :o)
