This gallery has pretty much erased any doubts as per my decision to go F717 in the next few months...

That snowy vancouver shot is fabulous: even if taken with the 707 :-)
Top photographer.

Terry,
The butterflies are awesome. Were they shot with just the 717 or were close up lenses used? If just the 717, I didn't know that it could pull that much detail for macros and close ups. Quite nice.

I own an F717. It is my first digital camera, but I do have some concerns over detail quality. It certaily has all the controls you would want and I have spent the last couple months exploring them.
It is a versatile camera and I really like the control it gives you. But I do think that when you get to minute details in image quality it might come up a bit short. The Ziess lens has great range, but that comes at the expense of detail quality.
If you do buy one, don't get the tele or wide angle attachments. To use a technical term, they suck! You will be disappointed.
To see for yourself compare the best images you can find taken with the F717 with the winners with closeups in most DP challenges.
My entry this week in the Egg challenge, called "Goodbye Cruel World" is the best detail I have been able to achieve so far. I would like much better.
I spent $729 for mine, but I think you could get it cheaper if you look.
I don't regret my decision, but you should be aware.

stdavidson: you should remove the title of your Egg picture, as it is the current challenge.

Thanks John and Courtenay. Yes they were shot with the regular lense. No attachments. For most of the shots I was literally an inch or two away.
Does anyone have the macro attachment or step up rings or telephoto lense for the 717? I would like to get a macro and telephoto lense for it and would like recommendations.
