I am going to be doing photography for a minor league baseball team and was hoping the great photographers of dpchallenge could recommend a 4 or 5 megapixel camera for me. I'm looking to spend no more than $1000. I would also love some advice on add-ons, such as filters or flashes that may be worth buying considering many of my photographs may be taken at dusk or at night under stadium lights.
Sorry for the confusion, i do NOT currently own a Sony DSC F707... I almost bought one when i created this account but i decided to hold off. I am considering an F707 or F717 but am open to any other suggestions.
Please advise!
Kyle

You're looking for a digital camera under $1000 in the 4-5 megalpxel range...and you've already got an F707. Stay with what you've got! You could trade in for a F717 for slightly better autofocus and some additional features, but you're not going to get a dramatic improvement unless you splash out for a DSLR, which'll run you 2-3 times that much after buying lenses and accessories. With that budget, perhaps consider buying a 35mm SLR with a lens or two and then upgrading to a DSLR later on. |

I was going to say what Jimmythefish just said too. Stay with your F707. It is a great cam. Stay there till you upgrade to an DSLR. |

Kyle,
I checked the camera stats here on DPC. The Canon Powershot G2 (4 Megapixels) is owned by 296 people while the Sony F707 (4.92 Megapixels) is owned by 217 people. I would suggest purchasing either of these two cameras simply based on the large number of people who may be available to help answer questions about the camera once you own one. Both cameras are discontinued but are still availabe out in the market. You should be able to get a good deal on either camera. I know the F707 is now under $800 since the F717 has come out so there's your under $1000 dollar criteria already met. I'm sure the G2 owners will put me in my place but since I already own the F707 I can vouch for the quality of it's photos. I also love the extended battery life of the 707 which may come in handy during an extended game. Just remember that all the advice you receive in the next few days will be worth every penny you pay for it. Both cameras should be easily capable of doing what you need. You might also check out the reviews of the cameras: Sony F707 and Canon G2

One thing I can add is that if you're concerned about low light, the F707/717 might be a higher consideration than the Canon G3 given that it has a larger maximum aperture at telephoto. It also has a longer optical zoom range, and an extra megapixel for more flexibility in cropping shots. If it's action you're wanting to photograph, the G3's continuous shot mode is much better than the F717. There was a whole thread dedicated to these two cameras elsewhere in the discussions, so perhaps seek that one out...they're both great cameras.
