"Photograph your interpretation of the color yellow. The color yellow must lead to the impact of the photo."

Can someone interpret the second sentence of this description for me? Does this mean the subject doesn't have to be yellow?

I think it means that the colour yellow is gotta be the main subject of the photo - the part of the photo - which draws the eyes directly too it

something like this

"Photograph your interpretation of the color yellow"

The part I don't get is the first - what if you interpret yellow as red?
- say you were colour blind!

why doesn't it just say photograph something yellow - or are they just trying to make the description much more complicated, then it really should be?

i think (and was confused for a long while also) that the overall image must work to build up the ultimate description (in your eyes) of the colour yellow with an example of that as the subject.

for example: a shot of total blue sky with a brilliant yellow sun slicing through it.(the sky helps to define just how yellow & vibrant the colour yellow [again in your eyes] is.(pitsman's shot is a good example of this type of image)

or the shot could build in shades of yellow untill u get to what u see as the "ultimate yellow" colouration.

took me awhile and i'm still not sure if this is a good and accurate way of stating it but its the best i've got

totally completely agree with you - surely "photo sommin' yellow" is far less woolly than an instruction which has the word "interpretation". Yellow's yellow! But hey, why use 3 words when 18 will do?? a bit of succinctness would go down very well.

Could something cowardly in a yellow mono/duotone be deemed to fit the challenge?

Typical "B" movie dialog:

"C'mon, put up yer dukes and fight like a man! What are ya, yellow?"

Maybe the description author wanted something more interesting and creative to look at than pages full of lemons, bananas and daisies.

that would be a cool shot but it could get very staged to the point of boaring(IMO).

i didn't even think of that

I would say the subject does not have to be yellow, but the compositional element(s) that gives the photo its impact should be yellow. That is not to say the subject can't be yellow -- after all, a subject is a valuable compositional element too.

Can I recommend, if I'm not out of place, that everyone goes and looks at the last yellow challenge to prevent the atrocity that was humour?
