Hi everyone,

I am helping my friend look for a present for his sister for the holidays, and I could use your help. We are looking for a brushed metal 8x10 image space digital photo frame with a digital photo rotation / slide show. USB or battery powered is fine. A card reader built in works too. This is one of the ones we've found, but it looks too much like a computer monitor. We want it to look like a photograph frame. //www.vialta.com/o6/

We'd love something simple and elegant that LOOKS like this: //www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_3/601-0500275-8708131?%5Fencoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B0000C1I8X

Do any of you know where to get something like this?

So, nobody has one of these or knows where to get a good, pretty one?

This is the one I would go with. That's awesome!!! Cool that it lets you use your own 8x10 frame. :o)

I know Nokia has created one Here

Not sure about pricing, if released yet, or availability
.... but it is one to check out

Load through BlueTooth/IR compatiable handsets
Recieve MMS pictures into its inbuild sim card
Accepts an array of Media SD, Memory Stick etc

fits your description perfectly ....
is this what you were after?

I've been looking for a good quality, non-insanely priced one of these for a while. Many of them use fairly low colour resolution LCDs that introduce banding (using 565 RGB encodings) and tend to not do a great job for photos.

Others require you to pay a monthly fee to show pictures on the screen (cevia at least used to do that)

Many of them come in plastic frames that look pretty unappealing.

I ended up deciding to just make my own.

That one does look good. Only thing I couldn't find was any info on the supported colour depth. Given the total cost, I suspect it is a 16 bit colour display. If it is actually 24 bit, I might just buy one. A 10.4" 24 bit LCD panel alone (no power supply, interface, or supporting processor) costs about $500 in volume.

One nice thing about the one you posted is a motion sensor. So it's not displaying anything "constantly", even when you aren't in the room. Or if it were in your bedroom, and you were sleeping, you wouldn't have it showing images and waking you up.

And the horrible thing about it is the resolution. The LCD on the back of my camera has almost three times as many pixels!

Yuck--didn't notice that. I did notice low res on one of the others I saw (I think it was the Nokia). Something like 320x160x4000colors.

These are way too expensive too unless you are Bill Gates.

I wonder if there's a smaller LCD TV, clean looking, that has a card reader and show software?

(That's something to consider on these too --how good is the slide show software.)

Don't forget too that there will be a power cord hanging from these too!

Here is a link to a digital photo frame I found on eBay that seems pretty nice and isn't quite so expensive as some of the others:

I've bought a tripod from this seller and am very pleased with the quality of the tripod and the quick shipping.

You've described a lot of my motivation for just rolling my own version right here. I get to choose how good the LCD is and also write my own slideshow software. Only person to blame if it is crappy is then me.
