After rigorous analysis, teams will be assigned using a proprietary algorithm weighing each candidate’s creative vision, technical skill, competitive temperament, and shoe size. The graphic above illustrates the algorithm in action. (actually, I do not know, but that is what I imagine.) |

What's the cut-off date for the Skull Skill Cap? I'm busy lowering my average and want to know how much time I have to do that :) |

Skill cap is already set after the Rhythm challenge (when the DPL announcement was made). |

Not sure what “DPL” is all about? You can learn more here, but in short, it’s an opportunity to team up with fellow photographers to learn, discuss photography, receive honest feedback, and compete together for virtual glory.
This year we’re trying a different approach to team formation. To participate, simply register here. During registration, you may specify other photographers you would like to team up with, and the system will try to satisfy as many requests as possible. Please read more complete details in the DPL FAQ.
The planned schedule for this season is:
* 2026-05-24 → 2026-06-13 - Registration period (3 weeks)
* 2026-06-14 → 2026-06-20 - Teams announced, team internal discussions begin, names and logos chosen
* 2026-06-21 - The games begin!
As in the previous season, both the Monday Member Challenges and the Wednesday Open Challenges will count toward team scores. Members may contribute scores from up to two challenges each week, with their best results counting toward the team score, while non-members will have one scoring challenge per week.
Dedicated team threads will be available throughout the season so teammates can share ideas, discuss entries, and offer constructive feedback. Used well, this can be one of the best learning opportunities the site has to offer.
To improve the user experience, you can now quickly attach images while composing messages to share them with your team (look for the last button in the message composition box).
To help keep the competition balanced and fair, a team Skill Cap (maximum Avg Placement Percent per team) will again be used. The cap for this season is set to 60%, similar to DPL-6.
We also encourage all participants to remain active voters throughout DPL. Community participation is what makes this event successful and fun for everyone.
So let’s bring the wayward DPCers back into the fold and have some fun this summer! |

Sure, but for all your entries we'll need to divide your average scores by two. |

ETA I'm sure I could read carefully and do the math, but I'm lazy. Humor me, please :) |
Last season we had 12 teams of 7 people each = 84
We do need an even number of teams but the # of members per team could conceivably vary. |
I see we're almost to 60 with a week left to register. 60 would be 12 teams of 5 players and that seems (minimally) do-able. |

No problem.
const totalPlayers = 73;
const totalTeams = 12;
// 1. Calculate base players per team (6) and the leftover players (1)
const basePlayersPerTeam = Math.floor(totalPlayers / totalTeams);
const extraPlayers = totalPlayers % totalTeams;
// 2. Create an array of 12 teams, each starting with the base number of players
const teams = Array.from({ length: totalTeams }, () => basePlayersPerTeam);
// 3. Assign the odd remainder player(s) to the first team(s)
for (let i = 0; i < extraPlayers; i++) {
teams[i] += 1;
}
console.log(teams);
// Output: [7, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6]
