This is the posting thread for the January calendar challenge.

No prescribed subject but all entries should have been taken in the month of January.

Archival images may be included. Challenge will end January 31, 2026.

For those who signed up, thank you. For anyone else, please feel free to join the fun.

Reference rules posted earlier (see previous thread here

Starting January 1, 2026 we are planning a "monthly" side challenge which will result, by the time we get to December, in a 2027 Yearly DPC Calendar.
We plan to make this calendar downloadable/printable/viewable to all (details on exactly how this will work to come later).

Here's the proposal:
1. The January side challenge opens and you post pictures taken in January. From wherever you are or were, during the month of January. They can be any format, no restriction on editing, but keep in mind that this is an entry for a wall calendar so preferably landscape or square-ish would work best. Let's assume it will be a 12 x 12 calendar format, ultimately. 12 pages. The cover will be a compilation of all 12 images.
2. You can post up to 3 or four (one/week) pictures for the month, current or archival, so long as they are/were all taken during the month of January.
3. Your entries should be freshly loaded into the thread. Please don't link to any challenge entries.
4. All commenting and constructive feedback appreciated (this is what makes side challenges fun!).
5. On Jan 31st the January thread will close and there will be a new one for February. And so on, through December.

Here's the catch:
We would like you to choose a favorite picture for each month that will ultimately be used for that month's page in a yearly calendar.
To do that,
1. As the January submission thread closes, we will open a new one called "Choose your favorite for the January Calendar" and ask that you rank your favorite in order of 1, 2, 3. No discussion in the thread please, just post your selected favorites. This thread will be open for one week. We will then assign point value to your selections as follows: 4 points for a first choice, 2 for second, 1 for third. The winner will have the highest total.
2. At the end of the week, the selected favorite will be posted to another thread titled "Monthly Calendar - Favorite of the Month".
That thread will be updated every month and in the end we will have selected favorites for a January thru December Yearly Calendar! Voila!

For me the best view in the world, taken in Chardonne in January 2021 when we could not go skiing to Zermatt because of pandemia

I will post toward the end of the month this time because I went on a shoot and I liked a few of the images but some of the images I took I am going to use in other challenges and I don't want to be identified by them.

I thought that's the problem with shooting for this SD, the current challenges take the precedence.

In a way, I already have my image chosen, I don't want to be identified and the photographer in the entries.

I actually think once this gets going many will submit later in the month and each month there will be more and more submits. How nice will it be to have a calendar with our images on it. I think it is very exciting but it will gain momentum.

True. Plus since we only have 3-4 entries (entirely understandable and a good idea, BTW), I am thinking even if I get one I like, I'd prefer to wait until well into the month to commit to it as one of my three - four.

Please note that the images posted already in this thread were not taken this year. You may use ANY January if you would like to avoid conflicting with current challenges.

Yeah, I wasn't really planning on participating but I looked through my "logs" back to 2010 and found about 14 pictures that could work ... have to figure out which ones to edit ...

We have a PM thread for people who had agreed to "join in" to this side challenge and a question came up about the timing of entries. There are no hard rules for that.
Anyone, meaning anyone who has already stated they want to participate or anyone else who wants to, can participate with up to 4 photos representing the given month. The one per week suggestion was to, hopefully, keep things flowing. We were thinking it would be more fun than having all the photos show up at the same time.
For those who like to comment on side challenges, it will make that more doable as well.

OK, I'll post one at a time (if I remember) but anyone who wants a preview can scroll through them in the folder ...
