I really enjoyed the Impressionism challenge. Earlier in the week I had played around with various Photoshop filters, including this sample:
to:
but I decided attempting to achieve a painterly, impressionistic effect in-camera would be more challenging. As usual, I waited until the last day to come up with an idea and get a shot, and unfortunately I managed to submit a mundane shot minutes before the deadline.
But I was inspired enough to try some other attempts at in-camera painterly effects, and came up with this triptych:
I realize it is a flower shot, but I don't photograph flowers very often, so they are still interesting for me to shoot. (There is a link to a larger version to get around the 640px limitation here.)
To me, these are some of the more "arty" photographs I've taken (meaning I could see this type of thing being sold at an art fair), especially when printed on a watercolor-type paper. What do you think? |

I like your triptych eddy, particularly the fade to the background/ blur that is happening in the lower parts of each image. Makes for nice balance across the 3. The third one (on the right) is maybe cropped slightly tightly, leading out of the frame with the leaves and/or might work more strongly if you flipped it, so the leading flow would bring the eye back to the other images in the series, rather than off to the right ?
Here are 3 outtakes from my impressionistic thoughts:

I love the triptych. And not even necessarily for it being a triptych. Your idea with the glass worked out perfectly.
But perhaps someday we'll have a challenge that will make a combo image like this legal. It would be fun to see what people come up with!

Thanks for the replies/comments... I especially like your suggestion to flip the third image Gordon... thanks. |
