Could someone please explain (excuse my ignorance) i just had a complaint about checking helpful boxes ,and to be honest i was (stupidly) unaware that they actually served a purpose.
I havnt been using them and if i did i didnt realise i ticked it ..so now its been (rudely) brought to my attention i will make a HUGE effort so when i tick the boxes and press the back button on the browser are they being recorded?
or do i just tick them and go to another page (and are you still anomonous when you tick it during voting?)
Stupid questions i know i just want to do the right thing ..and please forgive me if i offended anyone. |

Hi Hoogi,
just try ist out ;-)!
1.: It's neighter necessary to press the back button or to go to an other page, nor to make a reload of the actual page. It works by itself! A java script will transfer the necessary data to the server at once in the moment, when you tick one of the boxes.
2.: Yes, you are still anonymus... |

Thanks nds....im still confused how did this person that complained to me know i (unkowingly) ticked someone elses helpful box??
She was moaning that i should have ticked more as they were as helpful??
Note too self: tick all boxes ;-)
Disregard that i see how it works now (silly me)

You don't have to tick every box, you don't even have to tick any!
Just tick the ones you personally find helpful. People don't know what you find helpful so they can't complain. If you find them all helpful, that's fine, and if you find none helpful that's fine too!
Just do what you want :)

That's not completely accurate. Once the voting results have been published everybody can see the comments on your photo as well as which comments were marked as helpful. You do remain anonymous during the voting week, but that hardly matters as nobody knows who submitted which photographs, preventing somebody from giving your photo a bad score out of spite for an unwanted remark.

I know that people can see what you find helpful, but they don't know the kind of thing that you find helpful personally.
I can't tell you that "You didn't find that helpful" because I don't know if you really did or not.
Thats all I was trying to say :)

The "Helpful" checkbox is a nice way to say thanks for a comment you find useful, but no one should feel pressured into doing it. If you don't want to click any of them, that is your choice and whoever gave you a hard time about it is WAY out of line!
If I knew of anyone hassling folks to get checkmarks, I'd go through my comments and uncheck every comment they made. Spiteful? yep... But I'd do it...

What Ben is saying is that other people can look at the comments another photographer has received and judge whether they personally would have found those comments helpful if they had received them on their own image. But they cannot judge what that photographer himself DID find helpful. We all find different things helpful and really shouldnt assume others think exactly as we do.

I agree entirely but one thing I found wacky is that I made a comment on a photo and it wasn't marked Helpful but someone made nearly the same comment as me two comments later and it was checked as helpful. I guess what I am trying to say is that I could see if someone got a little upset when their comment wasn't checked helpful but a similar one was. |

I am the one who wrote a comment. Look at it on the winning photo for the challenge yellow. I simply asked a question. It looked like from what was checked off that he was just clicking peoples comments that he knew. But I didn't realize he didn't know he was checking some and not others and that he didn't even know how it worked. I wrote him an email and said sorry if I offended him. Boy!

This is why I wrote the comment.
