It is a good base image in my opinion. I like your entry better because it makes it a unique presentation and shows that you gave some thought to composition and editing. That opening through the tree like a tunnel is very interesting! |

Thanks Larry. I was lucky that I had an opportunity to go back with the right camera and lens. I'm not strong enough to carry unnecessary equipment |

I totally agree, your entry is a much stronger image -- glad you were able to go back and get it.
I wonder how close you could get to your entry using the Sphereize filter on your outtake and "cropping" to a circle. |

Thanks Paul.
I just tried Spherize on my outtake, but couldn't get a satisfactory result. I was too close to the tree to get any useful background and don't have any shots taken from further away. |

I was worried about that. Just as a test you could try adding some more canvas around the shot and see if it could have worked with a shot from farther away -- might come in handy on a future entry to know how much more background you need ... ;-) |

That was clever, Paul.
Image quality poor due to generative expand. Not quite the fisheye look but close.

Yeah, looks good. Plus now I have an idea what to do if I want that effect (not having that type lens) ... ;-)
Thanks for the demo! |

I wonder if such a radical post-processing transformation would be legal under Standard rules? After all, it adds a lot of new black pixels to the corners, and I recall that adding new pixels (for example, expanding canvas) as a no... On the other hand, stereographic panorama (little planet) conversion does similar thing, and it seems to be legal... |

I'm pretty sure that generative expand would not be legal but I didn't have any photos taken from a suitable distance to test Paul's idea on. And even if it was, some of the background created by generative expand was very poor quality.
I'm not sure about the black border though. |
