It's too cumbersome to upload a photo just for a discussion.

Can't we please fix this? I think it's way more important than the phone app.

This is what I ran into today.

I was looking for help with a problem: I have a new MacBook. When I try to upload a photo, it only shows tiny little thumbnails, and there doesn't seem to be a way to see larger icons so that I can distinguish between similiar photos.

So I immediately came here to post a screen shot to see if you guys can help.

In any other program, I can just drag and drop the screenshot that I just took.

Here, I have to go

1. Go to my workshop
2. upload the photo
3. Then find out I don't have the space for it (and I believe new, non-subscribing members, who want to try it out without paying for portfolio space can't do this. Though it's been a long time, so maybe I'm wrong about that)
4. Then I find out that my space is full.
5. I have to scroll down the the bottom of a very very long list (since I paid for extra space), just to get to the button to delete a selected photo. And I have to wait while it renders all those photos before I can get there.
6. I have to find out the number of the photo, come back to the forums, and paste that in

JUST TO ASK A QUESTION

What kept me around wasn't the challenges -- it was being able to get help, get advice, get answers.

But it's just not worth the time anymore.

After I got to step 4, I decided to just go someplace else, where I can quickly post the screen capture of what I was seeing.

I've felt for a long time, and mentioned it many times before, what's stopping people from joining to learn isn't the challenges, it's the convoluted way we have to work with photos.

It's such a great site, but new people will never realize it, because that part just hasn't grown with the times.

Please, please please -- can't we fix that? I can't tell you how many times in the past couple of years I haven't bothered to post questions, fun things, little tidbits that would have made interesting conversation because it just takes way too much time to do it.

:(

Edited to add -- I really love this place. It has given me so much. Life is just really busy right now, and it's hard to do things inefficiently, so it's easier not to do it. Maybe when things slow down. But I don't see why this would be interesting for people used to being able to drag and drop other places.

You are right about that. For Reeheld thread I had to upload images to my own Website and link them from outside which was a big nuisance, very likely not just for me but anyone who was interested in seeing them. And even if I were a member my space is full and I wouldn't be bothered about cleaning it. And I wouldn't pay for extra space as a matter of principle.

...and yet you found time to write this very long plea Wendy! Just kidding! In fact I could not agree with you more. The hoops we have to go through if we just want to illustrate a post or a comment with a photo... it's exhausting, and more often than not I just don't bother.

So what! NOTHING is going to change anyway :(

just because every social media site allows you to paste or drag in photos doesn't mean it's easy to do. code has to be written for it and those photos have to be hosted.

the business of social media is to collect as much information about you as possible, including whatever you drag and paste into it. that's why they went through the trouble.

test, doing what Wendy suggested...

Result: no problem. It looks like your issue is really caused by the number of images in your workshop rather than by the method to upload?
Maybe if you clean up the workshop then at least you can skip step 3,4 and 5 and most of the frustration is gone?
Agree, drag and drop would even be easier, but I found the current method not to be a big hassle.

I noticed that long ago and my solution is to append the long edge pixel size in order to distinguish between the full res and web size versions. This has worked well for me for many years. I rarely upload full res images here.

I agree that the current method of sharing an image is, well, archaic. I will look into what can be done to ease the pain.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!

And my son-in-law was down on Tuesday and hacked my computer to fix my tiny thumbnail issue.

Just hid a post. Let's be civil, ok?

I would love to easily drop in and just slap a pasted image into a thread here to discuss and BS about.

*shrug* I rarely find time to even enter anymore, but dangit, I'll pay my dues around here until I die because I want DPC to live. :)
