THIS IS NOT THE PHOTOS I SUBMITTED IN THIS CHALLENGE. But I wonder, Is that one worth more than 4.3234? Because if it is then I made the wrong choice again...

I donĂ¢€™t know what you submitted but I think the photo shown here would score higher than 4.3234. I would give it a 6 or7. Good Shot!
Have you tried it in duotone Black on Black? I just did and it looks real good.

I'm regretting my entry too. But I can't complain as I put it off till the last minute. Two days ago I built a nice light tent and took some shots which would have probably done a ton better...oh well, that's what this site is for, improvement. |

Thanks for the reply. It made me regret to have submitted the one I did but at the same time it made me think that I still can do better than 4.xxxx.
Thanks for the black on black suggestion. I never tried to do that before and it's really amazing.

Hi Nick! I very much enjoyed my visit to your gallery, where I note you have several wonderful macro pictures of flowers. Flowers are an inordinately pleasant subject for most people. Screws and nuts and bolts aren't generally as aesthetically pleasing. That's not to say they can't be interesting, but this particular photo doesn't present your subject in an interesting way or from an unusual viewpoint. Artistically, this might not have generated a higher score than whatever you orginally submitted, but that's just me. Technically, there is a strange shadow (?) at the top of the image. The nut seems to reflect on the washer, and the colors seem a bit untrue. On the plus side, you've captured the threads in the screw extremely well. The one thing I sense is that you approached this subject in the same manner you've previously approached your flower shots - from above looking down. You might have been more pleased with the result if you had changed your viewpoint so it was from below, looking up. This might have made your composition appear like something you built, giving it a sense of architecture and unique perspective. Some of the best macro shots in the challenge forced the viewer to consider the subject in a new or different way. An example of what I mean would be the toothpick ones -- not just one toothpick laying on a whiteboard, but a "bouquet" of toothpicks that looked like a chrysanthemum. Overall this is a decent shot, it just didn't capture my imagination. I think you were right to try a different shot instead. |

here's my outake. My current photo is sitting still at 5.4
This does not look like my actual entry.
(I kinda wish I left this one in too Nick)

Thanks for visiting!!! I will try your suggestion about changing the perspective of the subject. I know bolt and nuts are not so interesting butwhen you think of nothing else.... :-(

I think those are both interesting. I think this challenge may be scoring low across the board. I have 5 praising comments on my shot, and I truly believe it is a good shot. It is asthetically pleasing, technically good, and creatively composed; however, my score is barely over a 5. Anyone else finding this to be the case? |

Laurie (aka A1275), that was a wonderful critique you wrote for Nick! I totally agree with what you said and I admire the effort you put into it. Wanna come critique mine now, please? :-) You deserve a pat on the back for that effort.
