Well, THAT made me Google Robber Flies ... seems there's an assortment of opinions on them. Good because they kill insects that can harm your garden, bad because they kill insects that are good for your garden, etc. Haven't ready but only a couple blurbs at this point. Interesting for sure. |

We have them here in south-central Pennsylvania. Hairy & scary, but innocuous & harmless.
They'll sit on your finger if you approach them slowly as they're curious.

I've had a little time to read this and some other articles ... very interesting insect indeed! :-)
Over 1000 species of Robber Flies, can get up to 3 inches in length, and (sorry Jeb - be careful!) can / will bite humans if handled roughly. Even read where they were seen chasing / attacking hummingbirds!
