I imagine this is a good thing, but I can't find any despair! I saw a homeless guy out in the cold rain the other day, but I didn't have my camera. This is a tough challenge topic to 'create' a shot. I'm not sure what I'll do. I can always fall back on a 'crying child,' but is that really despair, or just anger over getting chicken and broccoli for dinner instead of Poptarts?? (We have three little boys, ages 1, 3, and 5, and they usually don't like our dinner menu). They are generally a happy bunch, but we have our share of crying!

Maybe something will pop up in the next day. It's a bummer if I don't get to participate in this challenge, but it sure beats having despair in my life!! I'm counting my blessings... how about you?

I almost got a picture of a small flock of black birds (ravens, crows??) that were picking at some trash from the broken bag. By the time I got the camera, they were finished. Now I could have taken a picture of the hard rain on the snow here, but the sky is pink, so it's not as, uh, Despair-ate? -Steve

Don't despair, you'll find a good photo-op soon enough...try a mirror.

Today I managed to find something that showed despair, without the exploiting of the homeless, the grief stricken, and even better than the photo I was going to use of the snow and the neighbor up to his you know what trying to dig out. Just kind of jumped out at me when I least expected it. If I might give a suggestion don't look for the despair, instead look for the opposite then when you find hope turn around and you can find the despair.

A shot at the gas station at the price of gas these days is despair enough!

Well said, Photochix. I didn't want to do the "normal" despair thing....so I put a little twist on it, using something that would be considered hopeful in most cases. Hope I don't get hammered for it :) I'm trying to strectch my creative abilities.

i was going to do the same thing. Despair in a seemingly beautiful photo of a happy life. I'm afraid it will get trashed though. It was related to the vacation I just got back from in the Carribean. I have wonderful pictures I took when I was in the worst mood because our room had just been robbed. My girlfriend's laptop was stolen as well as a lot of our other stuff. Then the rooms next to ours got broken into the next two night as well. It was a terrible vacation in a beautiful place due to some very desperate people. losing a laptop is not despair though, at least we have our health. that's teach us not to bring it on vacation.
