There are several photos I just love in the October Free Study, but two I'm particularly attached to. I'm just sitting on pins and needles to see if these two will ribbon, and terribly nervous that they won't.
Everyone go give my two favorites a ten. Do it now.

Yeah, some really good shots.
Come on Dawn give us some clues about your favourites: cascades, leaves, portraits, landscapes???
I gave tens to:
2 'leaves' photos
2 people portraits
other with unique lighting/texture.

I hope mine is one of your favorites, Dawn. You left a great comment on it and I'm very greatful for that. I'm nervous only because mine isn't scoring nearly as high as I'd hoped and at this rate it won't make it anywhere near the top 50 (even with a 5.9) because of how high the scores are going to be in this challenge.
Edit: I've give four 10s, eight 9s, and sixteen 8s and it's definately the highest scoring challenge I've ever voted on. I've NEVER given so many high scores!

I mean what end result will the top photo score? 7+ or even 8+?

I'm curious on this one too. Lots of great shots with very different styles. Of my top 5, there are two landscapes, two animal shots & one abstract.
I shold be nervous, my shot is at 6.75, but I know that in this group that won't even come close to ribbon territory.

Ami I found that I adapted my scoring method because there were no challenge requirements to consider so the average photo for me anyway was lower than one where I first had to decide if it met the challenge or not so that may explain the lower score if many others have done the same thing.
I normally vote 4 to 10 for a photo that meets the challenge in OFS I could vote 1 to 10. Hope that makes sense.

My favorites this challenge consist of 4 tens and 2 nines, all of which have been added to my favs and 3 of which were also added to my wish list. Two of them (the two I'm campaigning for in this thread) defy categorization - to call them simply an animal shot or a landscape would thoroughly undervalue the unique value and perfection of each. However for the sake of classification, my six top shots are:
1 landscape
2 people
2 animal/insect
1 thematic/conceptual
Ami - I'm so glad I left a comment for you that pleased you. I have a guess as to which photo is yours; we shall see if I am right. ;)

It makes sense and I kinda did that myself. But I seriously doubt that it has anything to do with why my image is under a 6 (albeit almost there) when in any normal challenge it would easily be a six and possible a high 6. Gaugeing from my 12 comments I would think it would be scoring that high now if I didn't know otherwise from the avg vote.

Hehe, it'll be interesting to see if you are. Lol, your comment said I had a 10 but I don't have a Fav or Wishlist yet. ;) I'm just very glad that you liked my photo and your comment is the longest and best critique that I've gotten thus far. Thanks!

I'm not nervous, my usual place at the bottom of the pile has been reserved.
Seems most people think they are on a winner...someone is gonna be disappointed and it ain't me! |

I did my voting early on, then upped some scores. I just went back to count the 10s.... fifteen of 'em. I thought I'd be very generous this time. |

Nervous? no... I submitted the best photo I took during the month of October and it's gonna score a lot lower than I had hoped :)

I am not nervous at all. I know I will be slightly above the middle of the pack. But I am really looking forward to the seeing the results. So many images that I really liked in the challenge for different reasons. |

I think many of you misunderstand me. I am not nervous about my own placement; in fact I've not even entered. I am nervous as to whether those which I truly love will be rewarded with a ribbon or a hig placement.

There are a number of excellent photos, but there was one that absolutely amazed me. I'm worried that people will glance at it and just catagorize it without taking the time to see the qualilty of exposure. I made it my only 10 to give it a little a separation from the rest.
I'm also a little nervous because my entry has been inching up towards a 6 all afternoon, which would be a big milestone for me.

I think your right. I'm @ 6.6= right now, which is my best score ever, but don't expect to be in the top 25.
In most contests you recieve about 1 vote per entry. So far I have 240 votes. I wonder if there will be lots of voting in the final hours. I know that alot of people won't vote on all 488. How many people won't get 20%? I hope those people are the ones that gave me low scores.

In last 400+ entry challenges there were 2/3 of that in avg number of votes, that would be about 325 votes now. But I really doubt that will happen, with all of the challenges going on now, and LOT of photos to vote on, then I think there will be less votes in avg per photo. Also when the number of entries in one challenge is almost 500 then the avg will be going down. With all this I would guess the number of votes in average will be around 267 (wanna bet? :-P ). I'm at 252 now.
I skipped voting on the other challenges last week and finished voting in OFS yesterday. I'm voting in every challenge that I take part in and if I'm voting in a challenge, then I will vote on every single photo in it, not picking out the best or just trying to vote on 20%.
Imagine, all places #244 and above will be above average! And if your photo will be placed in top 50 in this challenge, then your percentile will be at least 90%!
I think some people are going through their votes now and changing some of them, I did yesterday. At least I have noticed my score getting higher without getting more votes today, that's just great, I want more of that! A LOT MORE! :-P

I just don't want to wait anymore to see where my score drops me...patience in waiting for results is not one of my strong suits. I know I'm not getting a ribbon, but I would like to see my percentile, and respond to some of my comments that were helpful. |

267 would be great, but not likely at this point. @242 now. Only 2 votes in the past several hours.
I voted on all and then made changes the next day while making comments.

You're maybe right, I've only got 2 votes for the last 90 minutes, so for the next 127 minutes I'll guess it will be 260 tops in the end. |
