I have this new 300mm lens for my N65 SLR camera. I am interested in photographing sports, but i seem to be having a problem. I place my camera on shutter priority and set my shutter speed anywhere between 1/500 to 1/2000sec. My LCD panel will show the appropriate shutter speed, but my viewfinder displays 1/90sec. what's up with that? I know the largest apurature on my camera is f/5.6.

Is my camera forcing me to choose a slower shutter speed to avoid underexposure?
will a flash help even though i am already outside in the sun?texttext
I am using ISO400 should i use something more sensitive?text

If your speedlight is up, you are probably being limited on your shutter speed by the flash sync speed. That camera may not sync faster than 1/90. Check the spec on that. If you close the flash and the problem goes away, then this will be the explanation.

I'm not sure I have an answer for what you're seeing, but can I suggest using Aperture priority? I've had good success with setting the camera for the widest aperature and letting it pick the shutter speed for sports.
