The way I look at it is,

I enter what I want to whatever challenge I want if it's archival and I have one in my archives I like, then I'll enter it, If I think I can get a new take on the challenge then I'll shoot a new shot.

One thing for certain is that the archival challenges has put the entry level up and that has to be a good thing in these times right?

Another thing that is important in these times is that we get off each others backs and continue to be the community we have always been, supportive and caring.

If people prefer to remain indoors and scan through the archives for photos then good luck to them, support them. If people wish to go out or create new photos, even for archival challenges, then good luck to them, support them.

Let's keep the good spirit that keeps me coming back year after year..

Stay Safe All.

We are all welcome to derive what enjoyment and satisfaction we can from our participation here.

One person's enjoyment of a challenge doesn't take anything away from someone else.

Just take a pass and go to the next one.

And whether you enter them all or just a few, that's your option.

Some have more time than others.

Archival may not be ideal, it seems to work best for expert editing, instead of shoehorning- but in reality it beats the hell out of a slew of quarantine navel gazing entries...

I guess the answer is no :)

I joined dpc many (many) moons ago and it was 'sold' to me as this...

"Imagine you are a newspaper photographer and every Monday you go into work and the editor gives you 1 or 2 assignments and thats what you go and shoot, you may not want to shoot kittens but kittens it has to be and NOT old pictures of kittens"

Now, if things never change they go backwards so, whilst I may not agree with/like archival challenges I'll just not enter them - simples. In fact I enter 'archival' images on another 'challenge' website but (again imho) it's just not the same thing as why dpc was started.

Seeing the numbers for archival versus 'normal' challenges says something about what (most/many) people want now. Maybe if my archive keywording was existent I'd think differently lol.

The fact is, it is easier to find something in years of archived shots as opposed to going out to intentionally shoot for a challenge. Hence greater participation.

We'll go back to the usual idea of a challenge soon enough. Besides, It's only one a week.

Hmn. It is easier for me to go out (or round about my confines) and shoot than to look in my files. Such as they are. I would bet money or lenses that my filing is worse than yours, whoever you are. BUT this is not an argument against archival, which is a brilliant idea for these times.

I have this problem ALL the time! :-)

... or in my case Robert ( Bear_music) has given up trying to lipread what on earth I might be trying to say ...

But back to the subject of archives, mine have really benefited from the extensive "culling" I invariably do each time I go back to look for an image. In fact I have to allow extra time as I will invariably spend time doing that first. :-)

Culling? People cull their work? Wow! No wonder I have to wade through so much detritus every time I look back.

Something I need to learn to do too. Urgently!

My computer is full of junk and my back-up drive is full. And I'm not able to go out and buy a new one until the Covid-19 situation improves.

No, I'd have to use one of our local sites. I might have to buy online if I can. There are huge legal restrictions on what we can buy right now. But I still need to declutter the drives I already have.
