Okay Kerry supporters, I know you might be feeling a little disgruntled right now but that's now reason to tank my photo and start giving everyone 1's.
I'm suddenly in a freefall |

I am slowly going thru this challenge and wanted everyone to know that I think they are all beautiful. Thank you for entering. Don't get discouraged by low scores. I am using a new way of thinking about these. I am viewing them as if they were each submitted by my own child and are worthy of a minute or two of my time. |

i got a 3.4 i think it was for the poverty challenge, it was 3rd last. I thought the picture i took was good and although the link to the subject may not be as clear as others, it does exist. |

Alas! My score OFS has dropped slightly, and I think I'm the one that's doing it!! Now that I am in commenting mode, I have been bumping some scores up, and watching MY score drop!! Oh well, there are some terrific shots in there that deserve the high scores. |

Yesterday and today I have cast over 700 votes in OFS and Bizarre Nature. Whew! I'm not sure I have the energy to vote on the other two challenges this time.
In OFS, I found something like 60 photos that I gave a 7, 8, 9, or 10. On balance the quality was extreemely high. Very tough competition for the other 420 shots which may be driving them down.
By comparison, the Bizarre Nature had more than the average bunch of stinkers. Coupled with the OFS, I am sure many many voters will be disappointed. I was. A few things disappointed me. There were a lot of shots that were too small to see. There were many shots of ordinary nature trying to look bizarre (or with bizarre titles). And finally there were quite a few pictures of bizarre subjects which were executed poorly.
Just one person's reaction. |

I have learned not to complain about votes, as you can see from the chart below different people see a photograph different ways. The RED dots represents the average vote received at each update. And the GREEN is the average throughout the challenge. The numbers on the bottom represents the amount of votes at time of update and the numbers on the left is the scale.

The graph is really interesting. So in this case anyway, once the score was established, it basically never changed.
It would be interesting to see the chart of one of the photos that ended up being rated highly to see if there are, in fact, a larger proportion of low scores as the deadline approaches. This has been something people have commented about recently. |

I think I'm going to give up entering Free Study challenges. I never do well in them - currently scoring just below 5.
At the same time my Bizarre Nature entry is over 5.5, and I wasn't expecting to enter that one at all. Even after I'd entered that one, I contemplated pulling it. Thank goodness I didn't.
One thing I'm learning rapidly is that I'm a lousy judge of my own photos.

As no one in this thread seems to be getting a high score, and people keep saying they are voting very high on many images, who is winning?
Problem is that there are so many really good entries that even exceptional photos are getting mediocre scores. When you have a full month to generate an entry, the exceptional image quickly becomes the norm.
But those winning photos better be SOMETHING SPECIAL!! |

That graph was from my 'School Days Challenge' that̢۪s when I started keeping track [with graph]. I have always been a math fanatic so I wanted to introduce it into my photography tracking. It wasn̢۪t until I put the graph with the votes that I notice trends. If you will look at the last 17 votes, they were below the running average score and not a single vote above the running average. But thanks to DPC voting system 16 votes were removed causing the slight spike upward at the end even with the last 17 votes being below average.

I think I am doing very well considering 1) It is a great score for me, and 2) There is STIFF competition in this open. Won't be winning any ribbons, of course, but I am very pleased. And I almost didin't enter it -thought I'd be the only one who saw anything in it.
Thank you to all who voted and commented, also!
Edit - usual typos.
